Happy Hallowe'en!!

Today I am sharing a project and a yummy recipe! I was responsible for providing my son's class with desert on Friday for his classroom Hallowe'en lunch, so I decided to dress up some plain ol' Rice Crispy Squares and make them awesome!!

Here's My Recipe for Mint-Chocolate Rice Crispy Squares:
  • 3 tablespoons   butter or margarine
  • 1 package (10 oz., about 40)   regular marshmallows (I always add about 10 more per batch...)
  • 6 cups   Rice Krispies®
  • 1/2 Package of Mint-Chocolate Chips
  • 1 Block of dark baking chocolate
  • 2 tbsp. Peppermint Flavouring

1. In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Chop up the square of baking chocolate and add to the marshmallow mixture at the very end. Add peppermint flavouring. Remove from heat.

2. Add KELLOGG'S RICE KRISPIES cereal. Stir until well coated. Add half of the mint-chocolate chips  as you are stirring the marshmallow/rice crispy's mixture.

3. Using buttered spatula or wax paper evenly press mixture into 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan coated with cooking spray. Sprinkle remaining mint-chocolate chips on top and press into the micture. Cool. Cut into 2-inch squares. Best if served the same day.

Being the crafter that I am I had to adorn the treats with some handmade decor... I cut up some bamboo skewers and glued a banner and some cute characters to the tops.

Trust me..... These are GOOD!!! And most importantly, Phoenix was proud as can be to present these to his class as they ooh'd and ahhh'd and fought for the last square!!

Have a safe and Happy Hallowe'en!!

Anniversary

I had a request from the flower shop I sell my cards at for anniversary cards.. I have to admit that I never make anniversary cards because it's never on my mind!! DUH! Flower shop! Anniversaries!!! So I set about making some. This one in particular is kinda wacky, but yah.... It fits the bill of anniversary! I just kinda picked up random papers with the common colour of PINK and went from there.. The ribbon on the bottom is a new purchase, and although it's very expensive, I love it a lot!

Supplies: Paper: Papertrey Ink, SEI, Basic Grey, Paper Salon; Polka-dot Basics stamp by Papertrey Ink; Sticker Sentiment by SRM; Pleated ribbon by Pink Paislee.

Thank you for all of the well-wishes regarding Mint Motif! I am extremely excited to get started, and it's going to be a blast!!

Mint Motif

That's right! I've been invited to serve on the Mint Motif design team! If you haven't heard about Mint Motif yet, I'll tell you a little about this great new stamp line!
If you open up any stamping/card magazine you will see the name Kimberly Crawford (no relation!) on many a page credited with designed some amazing cards. Kimberly made the awesome decision to start her own stamp line partnered with i {heart} papers and has been successful in designing some incredible, functional, modern stamps. I am honoured to be serving on the team with some very creative card-makers that I'd like to introduce:

If you've never visited these ladies' blogs before, take a gander... I can already see that I am going to have an amazing 6 months!!

**And in honor of our new team members, we are having a HUGE give away of stamps!!! From all the comments left on the new team member’s blogs, welcoming them to the team, we will be drawing names for the following stamp sets!!!

Stamping Island Style!

I had an amazing weekend. I had the pleasure of being invited to a stamping get-together on Vancouver Island with some amazing, wonderful people who happen to be amazing wonderful card makers! I wasn't very productive because I was yacking so much, but I made some cool make 'n takes in the morning.. You already saw one of the things I made yesterday, but I wanted to share the other things I made!!

  1. Angela Thomas prepared this cute little card that reminded me how easy it is to make these little flowers with a small scalloped punch and some pretty patterned papers!

      2.  Glenda Wyatt brought us the project that's actually a bookmark! In true Amuse style, it's clean and simple!

       3.   Kim Teasdale was kind enough to bring all of her Tombow markers and show us her secrets! I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this technique, being that I'm a hopeless Copic addict. I am thinking I will invest in a few Tombows and try some colouring at home.

So that's it! I actually did make a few other projects that I will share soon... Have a wonderful day, and thanks again ladies for sharing your gifts!

There She Goes...

I am coming off of a high I got over the weekend where I got to spend some time with some amazing localish stampers. (More on that tomorrow).. One of the people I met was Jessica Knutsen, owner of There She Goes stamps. She offered a make-n-take at the event where I got to stamp and colour an image. I got home and checked out this week's TSG challenge and the image and the colours I used worked perfectly! The challenge was to use the colours Orange, Green and Black.

I used a combination of two stamp sets called Home Sweet Home, and HSH Halloween Additions. I didn't buy these sets and now I'm kicking myself because it was so fun to mix and match the images. So anyway, I spent a little time humming and hawing over the choices, then I stamped coloured it in with Prismacolor pencils and Gamsol.

I finished the card off by adding an SRM Sticker Sentiment that just happened to be the perfect size! Love that!

Thanx Jessica for a great make-and-take!!

Just Because..

I sat down one day to make cards just because. Isn't that weird? Weird for me, maybe. I always seem to have some deadline I'm chasing, or some challenge I'm doing, and it's rarely (lately) that I ever just sit down and create.

I made these cards with some brand-new My Mind's Eye papers.. I was hoarding my new papers (like I usually do) saying to myself that ONE DAY I'll use them for something really special... Well, that never really happens in my world so I bit the bullet and cut into my precious paper with good results!

I cut out the bird and butterfly shapes with the Making Memories Slice. (I've heard from so many people that have troubles with their machine, but I love mine... I don't use it enough, but I love it!) I also used sentiments from SRM called "We've Got Your Sticker" Sweet, and Hello (click to be brought to the SRM store) to finish them off.. The decorative brad is from MME and it's part of the same collection as the paper. (Alphabet Soup)

Thanks for stopping by!!

Hallowe'en Costumes...

Thanks to the generosity of the people at Pink Paislee and the wonderful people at SRM I had the pleasure of playing around with a couple of their paper collections. Yesterday and today all of the Design Team's creations are being featured on the SRM Blog, and I am thrilled that I can share a couple of my projects!

The first collection I cut into was their "Hocus Pocus" line:

At first I didn't know what to make... I don't really give out Hallowe'en cards, and I already have more than ten, so cards were out... Then I thought about what Hallowe'en photos I had hanging around and I didn't have too many.. But THEN I thought: wouldn't it be great to have some kind of holder for all of the Hallowe'en costumes my son has worn since we started Trick-or-Treating?? So I went to work..

The cover has a little collage of different bits and bobs, a couple SRM stickers, a little Prima bling, and some of that scrumptious black rose ribbon by American Crafts... SPOOKY!

The interior is simply two pockets that are designed to hold all of our costume photos.. I have since found a couple more, but I really need to develop a bunch!! I used some cute banner and letter stickers and interTWINED some twine through them...

Supplies:
Patterned Paper, cardstock stickers, and alpha stickers: Pink Paislee; Cardstock: Core'dinations; Bling: Prima Marketing; Birdcage die cut: Silhouette America; Black Rose Ribbon: American Crafts; SRM stickers: Live Life Halloween, Sticker Sentiments Halloween, Freestyle Halloween

Wordy Words Challenge

Awww. It’s time for another Technique Tuesday style challenge and chance to win new stamps?
Are you ready for it?
This time, let's have a Wordy Words challenge. (Click on the link that will bring you to SCS for more info! Free stamps!!) We’d like to challenge you to make a card with stamped words on it.

I used a stamp from Thinking of You for the sentiment, and the frame around the sentiment is an old Amuse rubber stamp. I coloured around the frame with YG21 and YG25 Copic Markers.
I just purchased some seam binding from Cathy at Steamtrunk Craft Works and within seconds of having it in my hands I sprayed it with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist. I love this colour combination, so onto the card it went!

So take a look in your stash for word stamps, and show us your stuff!

SRM Hallowe'en Blog Hop

Hello!! This weekend we will be challenging you, our readers, to “Hop” from designer blog to designer blog. You are required to ‘follow’ our blogs, comment on our posts, and return to SRM Stickers to leave a comment to say you’ve completed the Hop. You’ll have until the end of the weekend to complete the Hop (for all of you Canadians, keep in mind you'll have until Sunday, not Thanksgiving Monday). SRM will be choosing a random winner or two to receive a SRM Prize Package, and announce them the following Tuesday, October 12th.

For the blog hop I made some totally cute tags and a funny card with this set of sticker sentiments:

(click to go to the SRM store)

  • This was such an easy card to put together with the Silhouette digital cutter! Cut the shape, mount the sentiment on cardstock and cut out the sentiment, apply the bat stickers, and done!
  • Now for my super-cute tags.. I can't wait to give these away!!

Now... You HAVE to go to the next blog because it is the "home" of the wonderful, amazing, talented

Have fun hoppin' and happy Thanksgiving to my Canadian readers!!

Happy Birthday Jenyfur!!!

On Saturday it wasn't just World Cardmaking Day, it was also Jenyfur's birthday! (You know Jenyfur, right?? Fearless leader of the SRM DT, super-cool BLOGGER, amazing stamper, great person???) Well, the SRM DT conspired to all make her a birthday card behind her back and surprise her with them on her birthday!! This is what I made:

I used some pearlescent black and white damask paper by Amuse, part of a flourish by Prima, some "Parrot Green grosgrain" from May Arts, and an SRM sentiment, of course. Happy Birthday Jenyfur!!

Fun with Tattered Angels

Seriously..  Playing with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist and Glaze is fun. Sprayin' stuff and drippin' stuff brings out the artist in me.. My 8 year-old son, Phoenix LOVES Tattered Angels and he actually did the background of this first card:

  1. Cut out a rectangle from the centre of some scrap cardstock and adhere it to the white cardstock with temporary adhesive.
  2. Spray to your hearts content.
  3. Let the mist dry and remove the template.
  4. Cut the butterfly out and adhere to the card with dimensional adhesive. I used Helmar Scrap-dots.
These next two cards started out with the digital stamp called Spider Web background from The Cutting Cafe printed on kraft paper.

  1. Cut the kraft paper to size.
  2. Spray one half of the cardstock with purple and one half with orange. Set aside and let dry.
  3. Punch out sentiment and rim with webbed ribbon.

  1. Cut kraft cardstock to size.
  2. Drip green and purple glimmer glaze randomly on cardstock and allow it to dry. Once it's completely dry it will act as a resist to the glimmer mist.
  3. Mist purple and green glimmer mist all over the card and allow it to dry completely.
  4. Adhere ribbon and sentiment.
I am so glad I got into these!! I gotta teach a class on it soon. It's so fun!

Take care! mwah!

Happy World Card-making Day!

I love that we have this day... A day to celebrate us weird crafty types that love to spend hours and hours and lots of $$$$ making pint-sized works of art! Today I am showcasing a couple of cards showcasing Penny Black stamps! We, the SRM design team, were gifted with some awesome stamps from the very generous people at PB, and we had to make some cards with them... oh if you insist... Check out not only the SRM Blog today, but the Penny Black blog as well for some WCMD celebrations!!

I LOVE this image (a Thorny Affair), and apparently I have good taste because it's sold out right now, but I'm positive they'll get some more soon! Isn't he cute??? I used some papers from Basic Grey and my Copic markers ofcourse! And what could be easier than slapping on a sticker sentiment to finish the card off?? Easy-peasy.

Aren't those guys CUTE???!!! This stamp is from a clear set called Mimi's Christmas, and I actually thought I would colour up one of the Mimi stamps first, but those little penguins were just too cute.. And I wanted to make a long card, so it all worked out. I airbrushed some grey "sky" on the top of the image, then slapped another sentiment right on top!

And now for some exciting news...

I'm a Technique Tuesday Stamping Tech!!!
I've been a fan of TT for a long time and am SO glad they decided to go the "design team" route, and even more excited that I was chosen to be on the team with some seriously talented ladies!!
Technique Tuesday will also be celebrating WCMD on Splitcoast in their Member Forum, so head over there for some fun! (And see my announcement!!!)

Now go have some fun!!!

Are YOU Ready?

For Christmas, that is... I'm not! We have been a little strapped for cash lately because my husband is a substitute teacher and, go figure, doesn't work a lot in September... SO, we haven't started saving for December, but hopefully that will turn around soon. The one area I'm prepared for, however, is the card realm.. I have had Christmas on the brain for a few months now, being that I have been teaching Christmas card classes at Clipper Street in Langley since the beginning of September. Do you wanna see what I'm teaching in November/December???

All cards were made with Stamping Bella Stamps, My Mind's Eye and Fancy Pants papers, and sentiments from this sheet of stickers:

Stay tuned for World Cardmaking Day activities tomorrow on the SRM blog.. I heard rumors of giveaways or something....
