Top 12 of 2012

Here’s my farewell to 2012. Like everyone else the year has had some highs and lows and in my crafty life it’s been a great year. I just love looking through my year in card-form and see how I’ve grown and changed. I’ve said hello and goodbye to some design teams (hello to Stampendous! and goodbye to iSpy Sketches) and worked my hardest for the companies that I’ve been with for a while (Technique Tuesday and There She Goes) and I think that I’ve grown as a cardmaker this year because of all the interactions I’ve had with fellow design team members. Thank you, friends!!
Do you ever go WAY back and look at your cards/crafts? Going through my “favourites” posts from the last 3 years really showed me how I’ve changed style-wise. It’s kinda neat!

And without further adieu, here’s 2012:

Umm… I use a lot of black to mat. hahaha.. I also use a lot of brown Distress Ink! It’s funny what you see when they’re all lined up like this.. Thanks for sharing your time with me this year!

TSG New Release Week: Day 3

Here we are on our last day of blog hop challenges, and we have our new Sparkly & Bright set from Torico! We hope you have enjoyed the blog hop challenges so far, and we can't wait for you to see today's set!

When we saw these SUPER gorgeous characters from Torico, we were instantly in love. These gorgeous girls love their retail therapy, so no matter your gift giving reason-whether it be Christmas or Birthday, they’ve got you covered. I decided to use the sentiment in the set that could be used for any occasion – I’m all about being practical this week – and this girl is just perfect for any girl/lady/woman in your life!

I coloured my girl with Copic markers and added some charcoal shading. Around the edges of the die cut I left the Spellbinders die in place and did some airbrushing with a BG11 marker and a little bit of Distress Ink to tone it down a little. These images we’ve used all week have been a blast to colour – you gotta try ‘em!

Sparkly & Bright  is a 4x6 set that includes a total of 12 stamps and will sell for $18.00.

So this is a tooth fairy set and here’s the thing – I have a son, and he’s 11. No more tooth fairy stuff for him – BUT, this would work perfectly as a birthday card, right?? I thought so too!

Here’s the sweet image all coloured up:

Once again I used Copic markers, but I had a lot of help with Stickles today. When it’s a fairy there has to be sparkles. lol..

Tooth Fairy Approved is a 6x8 set that includes a total of 17 stamps and will sell for $24.00.

SO cute, right?? I love this image so much! So much, in fact, that I think this little girl holds the record for the longest time spent colouring an image. PHEW! I think I took about an hour. First I coloured her with Copics, then I did all of the shading with a charcoal pencil.. A labour of love, that’s what we’ll call it!

You can see a little better in the close-up all the places I’ve added grey shading with the charcoal (underneath her bangs, where the clothes overlap, below her head) and it really helps to make certain areas POP!

Do you love the glitter cardstock (Best Creations.. Kind of expensive..) I’ve matted everything with? I’ve paired these papers with silver before and it was a great match so I did it again.. Such fun!

Smarty Pants is a 6x8 set that includes a total of 23 stamps and will sell for $24.00.

December Greenhouse Stamp Set

Hey readers! I am so happy with the card I'm sharing with you today! I sat down to make this card to preview this month's Greenhouse set and I really had no idea where I was going to go. Copic? Watercolor? Distress Stains? Copic won.... Here's what I made:

Is this a gorgeous stamp or what? I am so glad I tried Copics first because it really was a fun image to color.

How to...

1) stamp image on Copic paper with Memento ink
2) color with Copic markers and charcoal pencils
3) die cut image out with Spellbinders and ink edges with the die still on the paper.
4) assemble the remainder of the card

Check out the Technique Tuesday blog for more details!

Rudy

Hey readers! Sorry for not being around this past week. I’ve been busy with CHA assignments, a big corporate order for Christmas cards, and a whole lotta Christmas concerts with my high school choirs. It’s been nuts! I am so excited to share this card I just made for There She Goes – excited because I love it! My holiday cards this year have been a little bit vintage – I especially love newsprint or faux book pages.

dec.13rudolph

Today at the TSG Blog we’re featuring some classic Christmas sets, and the focal image (scalloped circle and Rudy) is from the set: No Peeking. The final card measures 4.5 squared. A weird size for me, but the image is small so I didn’t want it dwarfed by a huge card.

Take care and have a great weekend! Got all your shopping done?? (not me, lol!!!)

iSpy a Goodbye

Doesn't it suck when your real life gets in the way of your craft life? I joke, but for so many of us the demands of children/work/family/friends doesn't allow for as much craft time as we'd like, and the truth is we have to keep our priorities our priority! You know? Kim Teasdale was the mastermind behind iSpy Sketches and it has been a pleasure and an honour to work with the sketches she compiled and with the ladies who I designed with. Kim has had to close iSpy Sketches and none of the team was in a position to take it over (it's a LOT of work!!) so sadly our little foray into the challenge world is over.

This has been a really creative and fruitful experience. I have made a lot of cards with the wonderful iSpy Sketches and here's my favourite iSpy card from this past year:

I just love that you never know how a card is going to turn out - even when you use a sketch...

*sniff sniff*

Thank you for all of your comments and for playing along with us this year! It made me so happy to see people play along with our team.

Take care!

It's Crazy Around Here!

Phew! Every blog that I've been reading for the last couple of days have mentioned that IT'S DECEMBER ALREADY!! Yah.. Holy crap! I have my first Christmas concert on Thursday and 4 more after that. My kids and I will be very busy over the next couple of weeks, for sure. But to add to the business I have had a lot of designing to do over the weekend because, as you may know, I teach classes at my LSS and I had a deadline! I have a little sneak peek for you. I think it's my favourite card of the bunch (I made 13 cards for 3 different classes).

I went to town with some gorgeous Pink Paislee products and some dies. I can't wait to teach this class - lots of sparkly elements and lots of sass...

Another thing that's kept me busy?? Our beautiful tree:

It's my first monochromatic quasi-grownup tree and I'm really happy with it! Phoenix and I had a lot of fun putting up all of our new decorations!

Check you later!
