Rusty Old Christmas Truck

Challenge:
Colour the Truck of Gifts stamp in rusty yellow...

Challenge accepted!

Now we're getting into some complicated colouring here!
This isn't just colouring something yellow...  Or is it?

To get the rusty effect I used a couple different colour families and applied my rule regarding mixing:

Blending Similar Colors
When blending two colours that are in a similar family, start with the darkest colour going to the lightest according to the numbers (and sometimes your eye will tell you what colours are lightest and what are darkest).
1. Start with Y27 applied in areas of "rust" and/or shadow.
2. Add colours in desceding number order to achieve a nice blend. From dark-to-light I used; YR27, YR24, Y15, Y13, Y11, Y0000.
Whenever you're playing around with colour families you just have to practice.. Some colours behave oddly with each other, and some are magic! With this particular combo I got a funny mottled effect in the YR27 that lended itself PERFECTLY to rust. Happy accident!!

Mmmmmm... Fluffy snow.... This is Ye Olde Liquid Applique (mine is actually getting kinda old and stinky, lol) and while it was wet I dusted it with Crystal Micro Glitter. After you heat it with a heat tool the glitter is IN.

Be Merry - Blog Hop

Welcome to day three of new releases from There She Goes stamps! Our second set from new illustrator Danielle Lounds find’s us celebrating the holidays with her unique style of combining handwritten sentiments, with super cute images. I love that the words can be colored, and the tag image will be perfect for cards, and gift giving.

Today I made a fun project that came from my own little brain!! I am so happy they turned out to be so cute!

I decorated a couple of mini Mason jars and added these cute little chalkboard tags made with today's set! This was a really quick gift to put together, now I just have to go find some candy to put in the jars... I'm thinking some Jelly Bellys!

Instead of the snow-globe idea (that's what I've seen a lot of people do with these tiny trees) I put everything ON TOP of the jar. I covered the lid with Glossy Accents and pressed the mica flakes and the trees into it while it was still wet. The next morning everything was solid as a rock!

Be Merry is a 4x8 set that includes a total of 9 stamps and will sell for $18.00. It will be released on Saturday, November 30th at 11pmEST.

This winter sports silhouette stamp is perfect for the winter enthusiast in your life. Not only will it make amazing cards, but it will ROCK for scrapbooking, too.

You know I love playing around with backgrounds and Silhouetted images, right?! This background was made with PanPastels. When I showed my son he said, "Oooooo, ombre!" Have I raised him right, or what?!

Small Dylusions Journal

I've been enjoying creating in my Small Dylusions Journal mostly because it's really quick to finish a page! I love creating in my big one, but sometimes I don't have a tonne of time!

Here's my most recent creation:

I used a whole bunch of acrylic paints (and finger painted!!), stencils, and some letter and word stickers... I LOVE how the colours turned out!

Underneath all of the letter stickers I added some shading with a black Big Brush Pitt Pen. I like that you can rub the ink, or add a little water to blend it out.

That's all for now, thanks for stopping by!!

Season's Greetings

Hi there. Today I'm sharing a card I made with the There She Goes stamp set,

I think this Spellbinders label die fits this image perfectly! Once I cut it out I left the die on the cardstock and sponged around it (one of my favourite tricks) and it gave it a nice warm glow...

Head over to the TSG Blog to check out some more festive inspiration!

Santa Air Drop - Monochromatic Colouring Tutorial

I'm here today with another quick Copic tutorial using Stampendous! stamps.
For today's card I chose the gorgeous Cling Santa Air Drop stamp.

I was looking at this scene and wondered how I could really focus on Santa and his presents and considered the "Spotlight Technique" (that's where you have a punched-out area of the stamp that's coloured and everything else is not) but decided to go in a slightly different direction. I don't know what I would call this technique, but having everything monochromatic except for the focal point of the image is another fun way to switch up your colouring.

Here's how I coloured the grays:

As you can see, I went through the entire image and coloured all of the dark/shadows (C7), then into the mediums (C5/C3) then the lightest marker (C1).

Here's the completed card! To enhance the grays and give other parts of the image a little pizzazz, I added some Crystal Micro Glitter by going over bits with a glue pen. It's a quick and easy way to add glitter!!

Thanks for joining me today, and happy colouring!

November Greenhouse Reveal

This month is a beauty... It's one of those stamps that doesn't take a lot of work to make beautiful.

I stamped the image with Memento ink and coloured it with Copic markers. As you can see, it doesn't take a lot of colouring skill and not much time either. This would make a good stamp for replication!

The Berries - Greenhouse Society stamp set starts shipping on November 25th to Greenhouse Society members.

PanPastel Art Journal Page

So I've been smitten by PanPastels.

I'm seeking out new ways to use them and I've been having a lot of fun.

Today's art journal page started with the PanPastel Resist technique.

This technique was different from what I thought it would be. When you lay down the pastels on paper and paint on top of them, the pastels actually prevent the paint from fully gripping the paper. So, once the paint has dried I took a baby wipe and started wiping away the paint from the raised portions. I don't get much of the PanPastel colours I used coming through (metallics) but it's a nice effect.

Once I was done fiddling with the paints I added more Metallic PanPastels on top. They are a gorgeous way to highlight embossed pieces and so vivid. I love how the gold deepens all of the colours around it. There are spots on the page that have the coolest colour combos - and they're all spontaneous!!

Once I was happy with the background, I started doodling the vines. I used a Stabilo All Pencil and went over the lines with a waterbrush. The verse was written with big Pitt Pens and I gotta say, I love my handwriting with them! They are big markers to hold but somehow everything always comes out so nice and smooth.

Have you dabbled with PanPastels yet?? When asked what set of colours are good to start off with, hands-down I will say the metallics. They are a perfect compliment to any medium. Try it out and let me know what you think!!

Annabelle Stamps Christmas Tag

Hi guys! So today I got a new toy: the eBosser, so I had a bunch of die-cuts laying around and said to myself, "Hey! I can use those!!"

I die cut: the tag, the snowflake rosette, the green snowflake, and the tattered strips. To add some textural elements to the tag I stamped some snowflake circles onto the patterned paper with today's featured set, Round For Christmas, and embossed it with white EP.
Then I stamped a couple sentiments onto the strip.

I have quite the collection of holiday tags, so if you need any, LET ME KNOW!! ;)
Have a great weekend!

Copic Tutorial: Leaf Girl Kiddo

Hi there! Today I'm celebrating my favourite time of year: AUTUMN, and my absolute fav thing is watching the leaves turn from green to orange, red, yellow and all the shades in between. I think it's a fun challenge to colour turning leaves with Copic markers. There are many different combos you could play around with, but today I went with the green/orange combo. Check it out:

I coloured Leaf Girl Kiddo with Copics and left the leaves 'till last.

As you can see here, I started with the greens then went to orange.
Just a little tip: if you're combining two colours that don't really go together (green and orange, for example), they should be a light marker. Dark markers will just push against each other and will be stubborn - but light markers will blend nicely!

So once I added the dark orange on the tips of the leaves I had to blend it out a little with the light orange.

All done!
Pretty fun, right?! Thanks for joining me today!

Christmas Cards are Easy!

Why is it that Christmas cards are so easy to make? The ideas just keep coming and coming and my only hope is that I will have enough time to use all of my pretty stamps before the big day!

Here are a couple of cards made with some new Annabelle Stamps:

I am teaching a mixed media card class at Clipper Street and this card is a combination of a couple ideas from it. The sentiment is from Annabelle's set called Merry Messages and I stamped it on vellum with Staz-on. Plus... that beautiful poinsettia by Spellbinders - it's a "classic" in my Christmas repertoire.

This uses Merry Messages again, this time paired with these adorable stamps from Hero Arts. They are a few years old (like maybe, 5 years old!!) but are still one of my fav's. CUTE CUTE CUTE!!

Check out all three NEW Christmas sets here, and have a great week!

Just Add Snow

Here is a Christmas-inspired card that is fitting for the upcoming holiday season!
Tobi_PenguinPals_SnowCard
I used Technique Tuesday's hipster-inspired penguin from Penguin Pals and coloured him up with Copics. The snowy background was done with some free-style cutting and an edge scraper - this is truly such an easy technique and so cool when it's done! The snowflakes were first stamped in blue, then I added another snowflake on top (slightly offset) with some white embossing powder. (The blue snowflakes were like BAM!! so I toned them down...)

Penguin Pals is on sale now through our Web site and some retailers!

November Annabelle Stamps Challenge

I'm so excited that we're all thinking about Christmas!! I had a little choir rehearsal at my house last night and my students were thrilled that I was playing Christmas music... YAY!!

For this month's challenge I used some BRAND-NEW stamps from Annabelle... Just released yesterday! Check out my card:

Absolutely non-traditional colours, but these papers are all from this year's Pink Paislee Christmas collection. I love them because they are rustic and woodsy and warm.. All good things when it comes to Christmas.

For the sentiment and main image I used stamps from Holly Jolly Christmas. I stamped the wreath in green then added white and red Liquid Pearls. It was a snap and yet so pretty!

Check out the Annabelle Stamps Blog for more challenge details!
