Stampendous Plays with Ice Resin

This week we’re joining with two more craft industry partners, ICE Resin and Imagine Crafts. We’ll be using our stamps, Imagine Crafts’ Tsukineko® Staz-On™ ink and ICE Resin, bezels and embellishments to make some terrific jewelry. We know some of you have looked at this process when we’ve shared it before and probably thought, “I should try that someday!” Well, there’s no time like the present. This process is so easy and simple that you really need to just dive in, you’ll fall in love with it, we promise, and you’ll be creating jewelry for yourself and all your friends before you know it. The biggest benefit of these projects is that you never have to wonder what you’ll do with it when it’s done! People are so excited to wear your creations!

Here's a little slideshow showing the steps I took to make my two little pieces.

48 Weeks Progress

Behind the scenes here at Tobi's Place I've been painting up a storm with Donna Downey's 48 Weeks online class. I have learned so many valuable lessons so far and I'm only up to week 11! I'm so proud of some of the pages so far, so I thought I would share...

Which one is your favorite??

A Change Of Pace

I have a very talented friend, Jef Gibbons, that does it all: photography, video production, sound engineering, composition, musician - and he and I have collaborated many times over the years on various projects and it's been a blast... This is the latest project and it was definitely the scariest for me!! I am a musician, not a maker of music videos! Me, in front of a camera... Yah no.. But here it is:

PenPatterns?!?!

Fran has done it again, and in our April 2014 Catalog we’re introducing one of her newest ideas, PenPatterns.Folks seem to have taken to doodling in and out of shapes for their stamped artwork lately, so Fran has created some images that are perfect for this new trend. These charming images have large open spaces ideal for doodling your own patterns into with either black or colored pens or pencils.

I played around with a few ideas, not doodling though.. I'm not a "zentangler" but I could dig the idea of stamping similar patterns into a stamp...

I stamped the "PenPattern Light" rubber stamp in versamark onto vellum and embossed it with white EP. I stamped PenPattern Flower in Memento Luxe ink, hit it with the heat tool, then sponged some soft colour on the inside!

This image was fun to create. I started with a background created with Dylusions Ink Sprays. Then I stamped the PenPatterns Bird in the middle, and used a few tiny stamps (the half-circles and the scroll on the wing) from one of the clear sets to add doodling. Once finished I added shading with a chalk pencil and sprinkled some Aged White Embossing Enamel in strategic places.. Do you like? It's fun to veer off from the original stamp design - you should try it!

April Greenhouse Society Reveal

Slowly but surely I am getting back into the groove of things. It takes a while when you take a break, doesn't it? It's kind of like singing my first notes after summer vacation!! Sometimes a little scary... lol

So here's my card which I thoroughly enjoyed colouring:

I stamped the carnations in a light beige to allow the colouring to pop - it was a lot of fun... AND, I used my new Spectrum Noir markers. Have you tried them? I really like how they blend...

So check out the Technique Tuesday blog for all of the sneak peeks of this month's Greenhouse Society set... Carnations are so pretty, aren't they? I always forget...

On the 15th of each month we release a new Greenhouse Society stamp set. We only make a limited number - enough for people who are members of the Greenhouse Society plus a few extras. There are 3 ways to get these stamps.

Mommy Dearest...

I have had a little bit of a hiatus from the blog that certainly wasn't intentional, but you how life just sneaks up on you and takes the carpet right from under you?? Report cards, a two-week trip to Ireland with my husband's rugby team, then 5 days later a trip to Disneyland with my choir and band... I've also made a major life decision that will hopefully help with my stress-level and my ability to cope with busy times in my life. More on that later!!

Back to the title of my post - as a cardmaker we are always looking to what the next holiday is, and it just happens to be Mother's Day! I hope to have a bunch of different cards made so my friends and family can give them to their mommas. It's my first official post as on the The Twinery DT and I've used the twine to add some pops of colour.

Here's card #1:

When I make cards and have two patterned papers meet I like to put something along the seam. It just so happens that I usually use twine! lol... Then it's a snap to put a little image and sentiment on top of the card. So easy! Here's a close-up of the colouring:

I used Copic markers and a pastel chalk pencil to deepen the shading.

Here's card #2:

This card didn't end up how I wanted it to, but that's the way it goes sometimes, right? I added the twine on top of the design on the patterned paper and used foam dots to add raised hearts. I kind of wanted flags or something, but the heart are fitting especially for mommy! If there's one thing I've learned about art throughout the years is you always have to keep moving forward... I did, and it turned out to be be pretty cute!

Thanks for stopping by today... And get started on those Mother's Day cards!!
