Sweet from the start...

I took the plunge and cut into my beautiful Basic Grey Curio papers. There are some papers that are so pretty that it actually hurts a little when you cut them. I find it hilarious and terribly ironic that we all buy paper to use on cards or layouts but have the hardest time actually using it. The same could be said for this photo. I had a hard time using this photo.. Here's my journalling:

To this day this is
still my favourite photo
of Ian and I. It was
only a few months
into our relationship, but we
both knew it was for real
and forever....

I used a couple of new Technique Tuesday stamps on the layout.. Can you spot them?

The background stamp (diamond shapes) is called Harlequin Harmony, and the sentiment is from a set designed by Ali Edwards called Love Always Wins

Other elements used: Rose trim by Making Memories, die cuts from Silhouette, Tattered Angels Mist, manilla tag.

Masculine Colour Trends Challenge

I had so much fun playing along with Embellish Magazine's colour challenge with my new Technique Tuesday stamps! This set is called "Who Let the Dogs Out" and I ordered it with boy/masculine cards in mind. This is the colour palette:

In addition to the colours the challenge was to make a masculine card. I left the card relatively simple (I did use a nestabilities frame around the image and a new banner die for the sentiment) but no ribbon or buttons or anything too froo-froo...

I stamped some little paws in the same colour as a the paper for some subtle visual interest....

I stamped and coloured the image 3 times and layered it for a paper-tole effect.

TSG99

Since this is Release Week, our challenge for today is being issued by our fearless leader, Jessica! She wants us to create a ONE LAYER card that has images stamped in the same color as the card base (monotone) to create a background scene, and then stamp the main image onto a separate piece of cardstock. The main image must then be colored, cut out, and added to the monotone card base to complete the scene.

I used a set called Day or Night. I pulled all of the heart stamps from the set and added them to a clear block. I stamped them all together to create the background.

To be eligible for the giveaway, you are to create a card that utilizes the idea of standing out from the background, and then come back to the TSG Blog to add your name and a link to your project in the InLinkz that is located at the bottom of this challenge post. This challenge is open until the winner has been announced on the following Monday (Mar 28th). The winner will get a $5 gift certificate to use in the TSG Web store!

Thanks for stopping by! Check back all this week for sneak peeks of the new sets!

Sending Smiles Your Way

I'm sorry I haven't posted in a couple of days... I have had allergy/sinus PROBLEMS and I don't know about you, but when I'm feeling under the weather the mojo goes out the window!! I've sat down to create a bunch of times and nothing clicked, except for a couple of times... Here's a card I made for the colour combo challenge at SCS the other day:

I found the colours to be fairly muted and masculine, so I made an easter card for a little boy...Probably my little boy.. lol. I used a technique called "out of the box" where you leave some of the image hanging out of the shape. This image is a new release from Whimsie Doodles called Got Bunny?

This card was made with two new Technique Tuesday sets. The frame was made to coordinate with the labels 14 nestabilities die.. Doesn't it look great?! The sets I used are: Sweet Somethings and Swanky Sentiments. I embossed the card base with a cuttlebug folder.. With this much "white space" it's nice to have a little texture in the background.

I'm gonna go crawl back into a hole and sleep.. lol
Take care!

Whimsie Doodles Blog Hop

Welcome to our 2nd Birthday Blog Hop!  We are so excited that you are here and we cannot wait to celebrate with you!  In honor of Whimsie Doodles' second birthday, Melyssa has designed an adorable new rubber stamp set-- woo hoo!  I love that it is Whimsie's birthday, but we get all of the presents!

Before I show you the new images, let's get to the nitty gritty on how today's BLOG HOP will work, shall we?
  1. Each participant must visit each Doodlelicious Diva design team blog and leave a comment.  At each blog you will collect a letter, which you will unscramble to receive 20% off in the Whimsie Doodles store until midnight on Thursday, March 17th!
  2. In addition to the HUGE discount you'll receive by hopping and unscrambling, we'll draw one random winner to receive a HUMONGOUS prize: The new BABY JOY rubber stamp set, a set of hand made cards designed by the Doodlelicious Divas and a $25 gift certificate to the Whimsie Doodles store!

And now for the star of today's show.... this is Baby Joy!

and here's the card I made showcasing this adorable set:

  1. I stamped out the wave set numerous times on the blue patterned paper and cut them out.
  2. I adhered the waves on top of the solid piece of patterned paper and hid the glue line with lace!
  3. I lightly sponged white and grey ink in the background with a home-made cloud template.
  4. To make the sentiment cloud I stamped the sentiment on white paper and sketched a cloud shape in pencil around the sentiment and cut it out.
  5. The sailboat is paper pieced using 3 different patterned papers.

My special letter, is the letter B

You've reached the end of the hop. If you started half-way, make sure you head
back to the Whimsie Doodles blog

TSG98 Sketch by Danielle

This week’s challenge is brought to us by our Trendsetter of the Week, Danielle! She has created a fabulous sketch for us to work with, and we are so excited to see what you will create with this layout as your starting point!

To be eligible for the giveaway, you are to create a card that incorporates the previous sketch, and then come back to the TSG Blog to add your name and a link to your project in the InLinkz that is located at the bottom of this challenge post. This challenge is open until the winner has been announced on the following Monday (Mar 21st). The winner will get a $5 gift certificate to use in the TSG Web store! TSG stamps are not required to participate in the challenges but are appreciated :)

I used a versatile set called Buckets Of Love. I didn't intend for the card to be so Valentine-y, but I chose the patterned paper (MME Fine and Dandy) and everything just blossomed from there! All of the colouring was done with Copic markers.

*Special Note: all of the paper piercing was done with my sewing machine in about 1/4 of the time it would have taken to manually pierce!

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you play along!

Full House...

Do any of you play poker? I play a little, I'm not serious, have never played at the casino, but I've participated in home "tournaments" and actually won a little $$ once! To me, playing cards is just for fun, and that's the way I like it! I made this card with a whole playing-card theme, right down to the patterned paper:

Doesn't the paper look exactly like the back of a playing card?? It's from a new paper pad by My Mind's Eye called "Gertie." It was really easy to make all of the playing cards using two Mint Motif sets "What a Card" and "I've Got Your Number". I just cut out the cards (3x2.25), rounded the edges and stamped the "2" in one corner of three cards, and "5" and one club on the next, and the last I stamped the whole card. I finished it off with the sentiment that inspired the whole card and some Licorice Twine

Thanks for looking, and have a wonderful day!

My first TSG challenge!

This week’s challenge is brought to us by our Trendsetter of the Week, Jodi. She has issued a challenge to use KRAFT CARDSTOCK somewhere in your creation. You can use it as card base or as mats to your different layers, or as your focal panel, or you can create a masterpiece that showcases only Kraft…the choices are endless!

To be eligible for the giveaway, you are to create a card that incorporates Kraft Cardstock, and then come back to the TSG Blog to add your name and a link to your project in the InLinkz that is located at the bottom of this challenge post. This challenge is open until the winner has been announced on the following Monday (Mar 14th). The winner will get a $5 gift certificate to use in the TSG Web store!

By participating in this challenge, you may also find yourself in the Trendsetting Spotlight that shines on the TSG Blog every Thursday. We will be on the look out to find challenge cards that stand out and show Trendsetting qualities. TSG stamps are not required to participate in the challenges but are appreciated :)

You do not need to have a blog to be able to participate in the TSG Challenges! You can simply add the URL link from your project after it has been uploaded to your online craft gallery. If you upload your card to an online craft gallery, please use the keyword TSG97 so we can check out your beautiful work!

I used the cute little set called Bee Happy. The patterned paper is something I've held on to for a while to use for the *perfect* bee-themed stamp, and this was it! I stamped the honey-comb shape in brown ink because I initially stamped it using a faint beige and it didn't stand out enough..

Hi again!

I've had a weird day.. I woke up early for a choir rehearsal (starts at 7:20 am) and had a headache (which is normal) so I took some Tylenol and went to school. Everything was okay until about 9:30 when I suddenly became VERY nauseous.. It was disarming.. I went home because I didn't want to be too far away from a bathroom and I slept!! I woke up tonight feeling a lot better, so I decided to get some design work done!

I played along with today's Sketch Challenge at SCS using yesterday's colour challenge! I used a new image from Whimsie Doodles called Balloon Leah! Isn't she sweet? I love colouring these images. They always turn out so well...

Are you in the mood for another sketch challenge? Whimsie Doodles is so excited to be sponsoring the latest Midnight Madness Sketch Challenge. Make sure to check out their blog to get all of the details on how you can win the NEW Baby Joy rubber stamp set from Whimsie Doodles. March Whimsie Doodles Release!

The Easter Bunny is on it's way and he's got lots of Whimsie Doodles images in his basket!  Today is our March digi-release and we are so excited to share these adorable new images with you!

I chose to feature this cute image called "My Peeps" because as gross as Peeps are, it's a family MUST to have peeps at easter. The holiday just isn't complete without a box of yellow marshmallowy chick-shaped sweets!

The background paper was made with copic markers. I didn't have any yellow cardstock or patterned paper that match that particular shade of yellow. Are you surprised? lol

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!  On March 15th, we're celebrating Whimsie Doodles' 2nd Birthday with a blog hop, prizes and MORE new stuff!  You won't want to miss it!

Thanks for stopping by!

Where have I been?

Well... Sometimes my real job gets in the way of crafting, lol. I love my job, more than anything, but I feel badly when a few days go by and I don't get to make a card.. Or post on my blog... Or even catch up on my blog reading!! This has been a week of rehearsals and concerts every night, AND report cards are due this weekend so I'm feverishly trying to mark during every spare minute. Thankfully I have a sneak peek of a new image being released tomorrow from Whimsie Doodles!

Can you guess what it is?
I had a lot of fun making this card and I got really nostalgic.
My brother will appreciate this card, for sure!

Check out the Whimsie Doodles blog for more sneaks!

See you tomorrow.

Isn't he adorable?

Ian (hubby) said he didn't look much like a Dr, but I really wanted to put him in a
trendy green smock. So whatever Ian!

This card is for the current challenge at RRR.
