Season's Greetings - Technique Tuesday

Oh Christmas is so close, I can't wait! And, I have to say, this is the most prepared I've ever been! Presents are wrapped and under the tree, all card orders are delivered, and I'm set!

Have I mentioned we're going to Australia for Christmas??!! I'm glad I'm so busy with school because I wouldn't be able to sleep if I actually had time to think about it. I've wanted to go to Australia my whole life, so this is a dream come true!!

So this card...

SO fricken proud of this one...

This was a combo of coordinating dies and stamps and it was easy to create because I just threw everything together!

I embossed the snowflakes with both clear embossing powder and gold (just on the edges) for that antiqued look.

Merry Christmas!!

'Tis The Season - SRM Stickers

Hi there. I'm here today with a gorgeous watercoloured poinsettia card. It looks really complicated, but the stamp did most of the work, I promise!!

Knowing I was going to watercolour, I stamped in Distress Ink - that way any water I added to the ink would blend with the pencils I used.

The process I used for each petal was to:
1) Add some watercolour pencil in the shaded areas
2) Blend pencil and ink with a water pen

To finish the card off, I added some watercolour washes in the background and a bunch of splatters in white and brown.

A classy sentiment from We've Got Your Sticker - Merry on vellum was the final touch!

Thanks for stopping by!!

Christmas Tags

With all of my fun supplies there's no way I BUY my gift tags!! I try to make them cute, but don't go overboard on the techniques... after all, they get used once then they're garbage.. so here are some of the tags I made:

I had some ink sprays on my table from another project so I dragged pieces of paper through the ink and voila, a perfect background!
I dried the strips of paper and cut them into tags and all I had left to do was stamp to/from and add a chipboard piece on each of the tags.
I am a sucker for a cute sheet of Christmas chipboard pieces so I had a lot to choose from.

Here are my favs:

Magic Of Christmas: The Twinery

Can you believe the big day is only a couple of weeks away?? Even though I'm a fully-grown adult, I still excited for Christmas and part of that excitement is making cards with glitter, and twine and stamps!

I've been making some pretty interesting colour choices for my cards this year, but this one is going back to the basics: red and green (with a touch of blue..). It's a pretty simple card to execute, but what I love most is the texture:

The trees were stencilled on with green ink, then I stencilled the snow on with very thick molding paste. While it was wet I doused it in glitter. Once dry I added a bunch of red dots with Tonic Nuvo drops.

To complete the card I added some Maraschino twine that just screams CHRISTMAS, doesn't it???!!!
Thanks for stopping by!

Nutty Tubes: SRM Stickers

Hi there! I'm here with a nutty idea for Christmas gift-giving.
I like to fill the Tubes with lots of different yummy treats, but over here in China things like Hershey's kisses and M&Ms don't exist, so I have to get creative!!

Enter: the Trail Mix tube!

I make my own trail mix consisting of:

Mixed, salted nuts
Dried Pineapple
Dried Cranberries
Dried Papaya
Mini Chocolate chips

So what's better than a couple of cute Squirrel images to go with the nuts??

I added a bunch of glitter and snow to make the scene super festive and it was done!
What a quick and easy way to say "Merry Christmas" to your health nut friends and family!!

Supplies used:
Stamps: Lawn Fawn
Twine: Maraschino

Trio-Tastic: Technique Tuesday

Hello all! I hope you're having a fantastic weekend wherever you are! Today I'm playing along with the Simon Says Monday Challenge, and this week it's "Trio-tastic", aka, use three of something.

My three? Three colours of paint.

The great thing about the colours I chose was they blended together to make new colours, (that purple, OMG) so although I started with three, I ended up with a rainbow!!

After the rainbow dried I added some white paint splatters. It's a background that's almost ready for an image!!

I stamped the image in black then embossed it with clear embossing powder. I always had the plan to keep the cattails kind of silhouette-y so black was the right choice.

After watercolouring with black I went around the tags with black acrylic paint, added a little stencilling with gold paint and added a ribbon. I can't wait to give these away!

Supplies used:
Technique Tuesday: Cattails
Paint: Dylusions (red, turquoise) and Prima (gold)

Hey There - The Twinery

Well hey there! Did everyone have a great Thanksgiving??!! It's pretty funny as a Canadian living in China to watch all of the commotion and excitement happen in the US when Thanksgiving (and Black Friday) roll around! Such a fun way to ring in the holidays!!  Well, I challenged myself to make a unique Thank you card. Okay! Unique!! I thought I would approach it from a colour standpoint, and play around with some fun combinations.

heythere4This all started with the navy cardstock with a little bit of stencilling with white paint. From there, I started grabbing stuff!

heythere3Nuvo drops are all the rage, and I can see why! You can customize the size and they always dry so smooth and shiny!

The final, quirky touch was the Strawberry Twinery Twine to tie it all together!   heythere2
The thank you?? It's on the inside!

25 Days of Christmas Tags - Technique Tuesday

I have the pleasure of participating in another great 25 Days of Christmas Tags along with Technique Tuesday and lots of other great companies!

I tried to stretch my creative muscles and come up with a rustic and pretty tag for this year's celebration and I think I hit both points...

To colour the penguin I just used chalk pencils - he stayed old and worn-looking on purpose!
The other supplies are from MME "Sugar Plum" line.

I actually created two tags with this design!!

Thanks for stopping by today!

Friendship Poppy - The Twinery

Hi there. I'm here today with a beautiful and simple friendship card. On November 11th we celebrate Remembrance Day in Canada, so in honour of that day, I used a poppy stamp.

As a Canadian I will always think of a poppy as symbolic of Nov. 11 (Flanders Field etc...) but it is such a beautiful flower on it's own. I added a pale wash of watercolours in the background, and coloured the poppies with Copics using the "no-line" technique. I think it really made the flowers stand out. The black twine was an accent along with the black sentiment and black dots. It "tied" them all together. *wink*

Twine: Charcoal Baker's Twine

Using My Stash - a Moving Thank You

I have so many great stamps in my stash from companies still alive and well, as well as some who had to close their doors. As a crafter we always want to use the newest and shiniest things and tend to forget our old goodies. I just moved and it was a chance for me to re-evaluate my stash, especially considering I moved it all the way from Canada to China, haha... I made a conscious decision to push the old ones to the front and to use them right away. So.....

Here are my cards:

The image is from There She Goes - one of my first design teams and a company where I made a lot of great friends and was able to play with some amazing stamps!

So now that we're all moved in I have just a few last-minute touches to do around the place, and then I'll share some photos of my new craft space! It's small, but I'm happy!

Thanks for stopping by!

To My Beastie - MFT

I got this set and wanted to have a little fun with it this weekend.
The background was created with watercolors and little trees that are part of the set.

And the little "beastie was nestled in some white glitter paper I made with glue and Distress Stickles "Clear Rock Candy."

For this card, I used the current MFT Sketch:

The Secret Ingredient - Technique Tuesday

I had a great weekend of organizing and relaxing, and yet, I still had time to play along with a couple of challenges.

I was frustrated with this card until I found the perfect accompaniment to the sentiment: Macarons!!!
They were stamped (two-steps) and I added a little bit of grey shadow with watercolors.

Here are the two challenges I played with:

Sentiment: Technique Tuesday
Macarons: Avery Elle
Watercolors - Gansai Tambi

I Knitted!!!

Is it just me, or do crafters dabble in a little bit of everything?
A few years ago I had a friend teach me how to knit but I never followed through with it... Dumb me. But anyway, I picked up my needles again, watched a few Youtube videos, and got to work!!

First, I knitted this cool multi-coloured cowl. I was proud of myself because I actually followed a pattern and knitted it on the diagonal! WOO!!

There was a little wool leftover, so I knitted a little something for my little girl:

I used it as practice for a couple different stitches so it's not perfect, but hey! Fiona has worn it all day and she's enjoying her warm neck, hahaha!!

And just because my other pup was jealous, here's a picture of Scruffy:

She has the prettiest mascara and eyeliner

So that's my share for today! Thanks for stopping by!!

Happy *Canadian* Thanksgiving - The Twinery

Hi there! It's Thanksgiving in Canada today, and I've learned a little something about our special day:

From 1931 to 1957, the date was set by proclamation, generally falling on the second Monday in October, except for 1935, when it was moved due to a general election. In 1957, Parliament fixed Thanksgiving as the second Monday in October. The theme of the Thanksgiving holiday also changed each year to reflect an important event to be thankful for. In its early years it was for an abundant harvest and occasionally for a special anniversary.

As a Canadian I can say that our holiday is more low-key than the American version, but generally we do what you do: eat a giant turkey dinner with our family and give thanks for family and friends! I made a card that (to me) epitomizes the day:

I rarely use this stamp set because it's such a beast to colour, but when I was brainstorming for this project I decided to bite the bullet and do it.

The method I use to get deep, dark shadows and lots of dimension is to use chalk pencils on my colouring after I'm finished with the Copics (and I use it on top of watercolors too...). You can see around the outside of the fireplace where I added both black and brown pencil - after applying the pencil to the paper I smudge it out with a blending stump.

Once blended, a smoky, shadowy halo remains, and it's just a perfect technique for making the colouring appear more 3-D.

Happy Thanksgiving to all the Canadians out there! Have a blessed day!

Monster Birthday - My Favorite Things

Hi there! I just got back from a week-long trip to Hong Kong and what can I say... I LOVE that city! It's going to be hard to keep me away from there again. It's only a 2 hour flight from Shanghai so it's really tempting to visit there again soon. I mean, COME ON:

I took this from "The Peak" which is a mountain near the central part of Hong Kong island. Across the water is Kowloon. It's a HUGE city, but the people are so friendly, the food is amazing, and there are like a million shopping malls, so yah... I loved it!

So I got back from the trip and my craft desk was calling my name. I checked out the current MFT Sketch Challenge and I was inspired!!

I stuck closely to the sketch (as I generally like to do):

I had fun with the Monster Love stamp set (along with the Argyle pattern stamp on the pink CS, and the Chevron Grid Stencil) and my Ombre inks! This set is easy to stamp with when you have a Misti. I do not regret that purchase, ONE BIT!!
