It was a "challenging" weekend..

because I played along with a bunch of challenges! Haha... I'm so funny... NOT! I had a lovely weekend of nothing to do (except some marking) so I played along with a few challenges. It was fun because I tried a couple techniques I wouldn't normally have tried, and I used some products I haven't used yet too!

The first card is from last week's There She Goes challenge: stamp simply. No colouring in, just the stamped image.

I actually really love this one. No colouring and it's awesome! I used a
set called "Happy Day."

This is from friday's Free For All challenge: island inspiration. I used the butterfly gardens on Vancouver Island for my inspiration:

I used a great little set called Wingin' It. It's lovely..

The next three cards were for a few challenges at SCS's virtual stamp night. I only did 3, but that's okay!
This first card was a challenge to stamp something with a bird on it:

Another great little set called "Home Tweet Home."

This next challenge was to think of a wedding song, or YOUR wedding song and make a card based on it. I sang/recorded a song called "Greatest Gift" at my wedding, so this is the card I made:

I used an old Kim Hughes set.. I love the simplicity!

And finally, a card that has something to do with wishes or a fairytale. I HAD to use this stamp:

I used a large set called "My Little Princess" and only a few are available..

So that's what I did! Can you spot some new product? New My Mind's Eye papers, a new Sizzix die that makes that flower in the card above, a cuttlebug embossing folder I've never used before.. It was a very productive weekend!!

Thanks for stopping by!

Papertrey February Blog Hop Challenge

This month we decided to dedicate the Blog Hop to scallops!  We want to see your best use of scallops, of any sort, on a project!  This can include scalloped borders, offset-scallops, stamped scallops,  scalloped mats, scalloped frames, layered scallops, scalloped tags or anything else you can dream up! You can use dies, patterned scissors or even circle punches in a row to achieve your special look. We are looking forward to seeing all of your amazing creations!

I cut out scallops from four different cardstocks (aqua mist, pure poppy, berry sorbet, sweet blush) and stamped images from "In Bloom" in white ink randomly... I inked the edges with white and adhered them to the card base.

I cut a length of dark chocolate twill tape and made it into a quasi double-ended banner. It's stiff enough ribbon that I'm confident it will keep it's shape. It's weird stuff, that twill tape.

Then I stamped the sentiment on white CS, cut it out with a nestie, inked it with aqua mist ink and popped it on the card!

I've been getting in the habit of leaving my plain CS in a pile on my workspace and shuffling them around to find cool colour combos, and this is a product of tonight's shuffling.. Pretty nice colours eh?

Thanks for stopping by! Have fun on the hop!

You can never have too many....

Birthday cards! There are always birthdays and they always seem to sneak up on you, don't they? B-day cards are one kind of card that I don't make often enough so that's why a new-ish PTI set called Big Birthday Wishes was the perfect set to get me going on building my stash.. JUST IN CASE!

I stamped the yellow background with various PTI birthday sentiments with versamark ink. The main sentiment was a free download the PTI design team had on their blogs a few weeks back. Pretty plain and simple, but generic enough to be for a man or a woman, which what I like when I make cards to have around just in case.

This card is pretty specific eh? I made this for a certain person and I don't think they read my blog (at least I hope not in this case) and I just love how it turned out. When Papertrey released this set they released it with coordinating number dies, but it was an expense that I just couldn't justify given the fact that I have two digital die cutters... So I found a font quite similar to the PTI one and cut the numbers out with the Silhouette.

Thanks for stopping by!!

Love is Sweet

The current Moxie Fab challenge: paper piecing, got me looking at the newest set from Kimberly Crawford's Mint Motif set called "Sweet Hearts" in a whole new way.

I had these papers from by My Mind's Eye (available at i {heart} papers for a sweet price) on my desktop left over from my last card and I thought I could squeeze one more card out of the scraps. The heart paper i used to paper piece is perfect for this image and I love how it turned out!

Other supplies: PTI cardstock: Berry Sorbet, White; Memento inks; Copic marker; PTI ribbon in Hawaiian Shores.

See you soon!

Happy Bark-Day

Isn't he cute??

When I saw that Kim Hughes started her own stamp company with her amazing images I knew I had to buy a set right away! I chose Birthday Buddies because 1, it's a versatile set, and 2, I already had ideas floating around in my head, so I bought it!

I used a bunch of papers from My Mind's Eye "Fine and Dandy" 6x6 paper pad, Hawaiian Shores cardstock (PTI) and a whole lot of sewing!

One more thing to share:

Today was a pro-d day and I had the opportunity to attend an art workshop taught by a colleague from my school. Here's the thing, I LOVE to colour, I LOVE art, but I suck. You should have seen all of the amazing paintings the actual art teachers in the room did.. It blew my mind what they could do in one sitting.
But I am not an artist by any stretch of the imagination so I walked away pretty proud of my efforts!!

Thanks for stopping by!

50 and Fabulous!

I made this card for Papertrey Ink's "Make it Monday" challenge. This week's challenge is to make a sentiment strip with vellum. What a great use for a product that is so widely unused! I know I haven't used vellum in a LONG, long time...

I don't know anyone turning 50, but I like the alliteration of 50 and fabulous! I'll bring this to the flower shop where I'm sure it will get picked up..

  • "50" was cut out with the Slice. (Basics 3 cartridge)
  • The red banner was cut out with the Silhouette
  • All the paper is PTI: Hawaiian Shores, Pure Poppy, Orange Zest and White
  • The polka dots in the background were stamped with PTI's Polka Dot Basics in Fresh Snow ink
  • The sentiment was stamped in Hawaiian Shores ink.

What's up?

I've had a busy week in my work-life.. If you don't already know, I teach at an amazing high school teaching the best subject ever: MUSIC! We're leading up to the end of term 2 and that means one thing around here: playing tests!! Argh!! But I've also had the opportunity to get my vocal jazz group out performing at a local festival and we were also featured recently in an article for the local paper. Here's a video clip the reporter put together... The article will be out this week and I can't wait to read it.

So.. Valentine's Day! I had a great day with my hubby.. I started the day off by going to MAC to try on some of the makeup from the new Wonder Woman collection.. it's awesome! Here's the finished product:

I asked for a dramatic look, and I got a dramatic look!! The makeup artist that did my makeup kept saying the foundation had a "dewy" finish and I had NO idea what that would look like until I saw my skin under the lights.. Yep.. It's dewy alright. lol... I was a makeup artist for a while and I LOVE LOVE LOVE makeup, and it's always fun to get your makeup done by someone else and learn a trick or two while you're at it! If you live near a MAC you should book an appointment for a makeup application. It's always free and they always do a really good job.

So... card share.. Here's a card I made with a beautiful Technique Tuesday set by Ali Edwards called, Love, Ali.

A sentiment this beautiful can stand alone on a card. I added a Prima flourish and a die cut for a little pop of colour!

I have one more card to share.. My friend Charlene is the featured stamper this week at SCS and I had the pleasure of picking one of her cards and casing her.. It was great fun. Here's my card based on hers:

I had a lot of fun using some old and new products on this fun little card... I inked up Wingin' it for the first time with some Memento inks and found some coordinating elements to add to the card. The old- BoBunny ribbon, the new - Die cut scalloped border by 3 Bugs... It's brand new and I love it!

Have a wonderful day, and thanks for checkin' in!

Happy Valentine's Day Everyone!

Do you want to see a bunch of Valentine's cards?? Well, fasten your seatbelts friends!!

My hubby surprised me with a trip to a local casino.. You may not be thinking that it's a terribly romantic place, but a few months ago we had a great time there and enjoyed playing the penny slots.. In particular the Star Trek slot machine! hahaha... We had fun again, didn't win, but it was nice to get away for the evening.

So here are the cards!!

I made this card for this week's Make it Monday challenge from Papertrey Ink. I've stamped multiple images in grey that relate to love, but highlighted the main sentiment in red... I love how this turned out.

I used the same technique on this card (multiple sentiments) but with my Mint Motif stamps (available at i{heart}papers). I used What a Card and Sweet hearts on the sentiment panel, and the hearts in the background are from Sweet Hearts.. This card is for my hubby!

I made this card for my son.. I used some school supplies on the card to amplify the overall theme!

Random Card Share

I made this card with a few scraps (the darker pink banner, and the light pink flower image)
because I wanted to experiment with some bright colour combos.. Pretty bight, eh?
The white sentiment is an SRM sticker.

I made this card because I had this image half coloured and paper pieced but
never made it into a card. What a shame!
I had these lovely shabby/vintage papers sitting around and compiled
everything to make this lovely card!
Another SRM sticker sentiment graces this card!

I {heart} you

I made three cards for today's Ways to Use it challenge at SCS. The first two use stamps from Whimsie Doodles from the set called Valen-tinies. I used coloured pencils with gamsol/odourless mineral spirits.

I love the look of pencils on kraft paper... It's so fun!

The third card I made uses three sets from Mint Motif (available at i{heart} papers): What a Card, I've Got your Number, and Sweet Hearts

Thanks for looking and have a wonderful day!!
