My "Smoosh" Book

Not to be confused with a Smash Book, a "smoosh book" is, as Donna Downey says, a book that you can smoosh leftover paint, sprays etc in for later use. I love looking through my smoosh book when I'm looking to get started on another journal page and this is one of my favourite results:

So all of the colours/drips were previously smooshed and all I added was the black stencil-work! Isn't amazing how the "tears" lined up with the face stencil?? A total fluke!!

Hopping with Cardmaker Magazine!

The ladies on the Technique Tuesday design team get to hop with the fabulous people from Cardmaker Magazine and I'm thrilled! I love having magazines on my iPad to browse whenever I have some down-time and I, for one, love having stuff in digital format. So make sure you hop for a great prize *wink*!

Here's my card using Technique Tuesday's Straight-Talk "hugs" die:

I love that these little dies can cut through thick glitter paper with no problems! There's just something about glitter... ahhhhh.... Anyway, the sentiment complements the paper and vise-versa perfectly so it really didn't much more embellishing! (the paper is from My Mind's Eye and the black doily is a die cut)

Thanks for "hopping" by today! Next on the hop is:

Welcome back! We're on Day 5 of our collaboration with the folks at Imagine Crafts! We're just super excited about these terrific inks and the Radiant Neon™ just have us feeling all summer time and happy!

I made a couple of cards using a "watercolour" technique... Here they are:

So what I did to watercolour with the Radiant Neon™ inks was use a Ranger large waterbrush and I just swiped it over the ink I wanted to use. A little tip: have a small glass of water handy to dip the brush into if you want the colours even more watered-down like I did.

May Day - Greenhouse Stamp Set

Meet May Day. We think you will find this stamp set is perfect for birthday cards, everyday moments or simply saying thank you.
I am still on a shaker-card kick (I've got all the supplies out, so why not?)

Instead of doing the shaker with vellum I bought a sheet of clear acetate to play with... By using the acrylic it allowed me to 1) feature a stamp set and 2) use a patterned paper background because the pattern would show through nicely!!

Here's a little video of the process:

The May Day - Greenhouse Society stamp set consists of eight clear stamps on a 3" x 4" storage sheet. The stamp set starts shipping around May 25th to Greenhouse Society members.
Not a Greenhouse Society member yet? We have you covered! It's on sale for a limited time to non-members for $12.99 (plus shipping and handling).
If you like botanical-themed stamps, you may want to consider joining the Greenhouse Society. We release a new stamp set every month as part of this collection. Members get the Greenhouse sets for $9.99 each (plus shipping and handling) and enjoy other benefits. Check out the Membership Agreement and FAQ page on our Web site for more details on joining the Greenhouse Society.

Top Dog Dies and The Twinery!

Hello hoppers!! Welcome to my blog and if you've come from DoBea Alberts' blog you're in the right place!

A huge perk that comes along with designing for companies like The Twinery is collaborations!! This week all of us at the Twinery got to play with exclusive dies from Top Dog Dies. If you haven't heard of them, check out the website - in addition to their own dies they carry a huge selection of dies from a lot of your favorite companies!

So... Shaker cards... Do you love 'em or hate 'em?
I decided that I would design a prototype and have a little fun experimenting with the shaker card phenomenon. I hope you like them!!!

I received a super-cute set of dies called Baby On Board and used the preggo Mommy-to-be die in black. If you know me then you know I'm a fan of silhouetted images and this hip momma just pops against the pastel background, right? There are bunch of sequins in the pocket as well as a star die cut. I finished the card off with some pretty Twinery Twine of course!

This is the first shaker I've ever made and I just had to make more, lol!!!

Do you spy the baby carriage in the shaker? It's another die from Baby On Board and I thought it would be cool to throw one of the dies in amongst the sequins! It's funny, when you have a shaker card in your hand you can't not shake it.. It's addictive, lol!

Here are some other cards made from my prototype:
(fonts cut with my Silhouette)

So as you can see, I played around with different shaker stuff and sentiments (YES, I noticed I lost an dot for my "i" somewhere along the way) and I will say that having the master-plan made these cards go very quickly!

The Twinery will be giving away a Sampler Pack of Twines ($25 retail value).
Top Dog Dies will be giving away exclusive wafer thin dies ($50 retail value).
Hoppers can visit the Twinery blog and the Top Dog Dies blog to find out how to enter to win.

On The Road Again...

Well how are you all doing today? If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram you know that I had a wonderful Mother's Day and got a beautiful Pandora ring from my son/husband. I am spoiled as it is, but it was nice to get spoiled with jewellery - I kind of love all things bling A LOT!

So if you are local you may have noticed that I'm not teaching at Clipper Street anymore. It was a hard decision to make, but it allows me to open so many doors to stores local and far away because I no longer have an exclusivity-clause!

This is a class that I wasn't able to finish
teaching and would love to offer more
One of things I want to do is make myself available for people who would like to learn more about the two things I'm really passionate about: mixed media and Copic colouring. I have some great classes already set up and can't wait to book more - I'm going to have a busy summer (which is nice for a change) and I invite you to join me!

I set up a newsletter that will help to keep you in the loop about all of my classes (because I won't always talk about them on the blog as my audience is primarily NOT from around here) and I invite you to subscribe. If you are interested in hosting me to teach a class, by all means, contact me and we'll talk!!

It's Mother's Day??!!!

This day always creeps up, doesn't it?! Mostly I'm caught off-guard because of the flower shop I supply cards to, but I dropped off 10 or so "Mum" cards so that should be good..

Here's one of them:

I gotta say, the key to a really great CAS card (clean and simple) is the colour combo... Am I right? These colours together just pop and nothing more is needed.

All stamps are from Technique Tuesday:
The flowers are from our Poppy Sentiments stamp set.
And the sentiment was created by mixing together stamps from our So Very Thankful by Ali Edwards stamp set with our Handwritten by Ali Edwards, Alphabet Medium stamp set

Happy Mother's Day to all you Mums out there! I am looking forward to a day of pampering (even though hubby and my boy spoil me every day) but it might be nice for me to pick a restaurant and NOT HAVE ANY ARGUMENTS ABOUT IT!!! Let's see if that happens, lol...

Oh The Merry Month of May

I was challenged to make a card for Technique Tuesday using flowers...

I thought I would think outside of the box and NOT use Copics...

This is what I got:

The inks are a mix of Memento Luxe and the new Neon inks (both by Tsukineko) and this pretty little stamp called: Messages From The Heart

Technique Note: I thought I would have to use a ruler to get straight lines, but I mounted the stamp on a stamp press and I could use the grid on the press to line it up for me!

Once completed I added Stickles in between the lines of the grid. It just needed some bling!!

Thanks for stopping by!

I Sell On Etsy!

Okay so the cards and mixed media projects have been piling up and I just didn't know what to do... I have limited space living in a townhouse so it's not like I can hang all of my paintings up, and cards??? Well, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about when I say I have a buttload few cards hanging around... I know it's going to be a lot of work, but I am now an official seller on Etsy!!!

I would really appreciate it if you headed over there to take a look! Let me know what you think!?!?

SRM Challenge: Birthdays!

So a couple of weeks ago Susan from SRM Stickers asked me to join the new SRM Challenge and of course I said yes! It's a really easy challenge (only once a month) and there are some great prizes involved... Here's this month's theme:
For the month of May, we are looking for any and all projects for BIRTHDAYS!

Here's my card:

I was so quick to join the SRM design team again because I am a life-long fan of the stickers, for sure... I chose an image that doesn't really have an inherent "meaning" so pretty much any sentiment would fit - and that's where SRM comes in. I chose "Happy Birthday" from the sticker set Stickers By The Dozen/Birthday and mounted it on white cardstock. I snipped the ends to make it a banner and bam, done!

Speaking of the image, isn't he adorable??!! I used a digi stamp from Whimsie Doodles called "Gnome Fence" (scroll down a bit and you'll see the gnomes...) and coloured him with my new Spectrum Noir markers. The colours and colour families are certainly different than Copic, but I have found the blendability virtually the same. (Even better than Copic with some colours!) I give them two thumbs up!!

Challenge Details:

All we ask is the you use ONLY SRM Stickers and Products but you can also use SRM in combination with your own stamps, papers, die cuts and so on!

Our rules (to keep this fun and fair):

1.  Only SRM product is permitted but you can combine with any stamps, paper, die cuts, etc.

2.  Please comment on the project ahead of you and behind you in the link.  Everyone LOVES comments!

3.  You can link to other challenges - there is no limit.

4.  Anything that is offensive or does not follow our guidelines will be removed.

5.  Have fun!

The winner will receive a Prize Package from the SRM Online Store.  We will also be recognizing some honorable mentions!

Naughty Or Nice Challenge #4

Naughty Or Nice Challenge # 4 is here and I thought it would be fun to pull out all of those cute and "punny" animal stamps we have in our stash. I don't know about you, but whenever I give someone a card with a snarky sentiment paired with a cute image it gets a lot of laughs!

Here's my card, hope you like it!!

I used various Memento inks and got great coverage with it - I love that ink! I was inspired by this cute iPad case I saw in Best Buy the other day and I wanted it SO BAD, but alas, it was for a different model than I own. But, I made a card inspired by it, that's good, right?

I will definitely be giving this to someone with a good sense of humour - probably for a birthday... I haven't used most of the sentiments in this set (sorry - retired TSG set) because they are so naughty, but now I don't care!

So what do we mean by Naughty or Nice? Well, take a look at your sentiment stamps - are there any in your collection that are kind of "off-color" or a little bit racy? Pair them with a seemingly innocent image and BAM! You've succeeded in being naughty. But for those of you who cannot find a devilish stamp that fits the bill, no worries - you could be nice and post a card with our theme and you will be fulfilling our challenge parameters too!

Challenge Rules and Guidelines:
  • You can simply add the URL link from your project after it has been uploaded to your online craft gallery. If you upload your card to an online craft gallery, please use the keyword NON4 so we can check out your beautiful work! You can also use online photo-sharing sites like Flickr to share your photos too!
  • Please mention and link back to this post to let people know about this fun challenge!
  • Whether you are Naughty or Nice, we sure would appreciate cards made especially for this challenge, but if you really, really want to, please link a card that fits NO MORE THAN 5  CHALLENGES including ours! *changed it to allow more people to play along!!
  • You have until the 25th of each month to submit your creations and then the DT will pick two winners, one for both Naughty and Nice

** Make sure you check out the information on a prize this month on the Naughty or Nice blog
