Hi there! I had a night off (woo!) and enjoyed a little Netflix-watching with the fam, then sat down to create a card for today’s Free for All challenge at SCS. The challenge is to use patterned papers to colour-block a background, so I chose some new-to-me Basic Grey papers from their Sweet Threads line.
Here’s my card:

In the spirit of the birthday celebrations at the TSG Blog, I stamped a scene using a bunch of different stamp sets. I used: Beautiful Day, The Fairy Best, and Once Upon a Time. It’s really fun having all of these interchangeable sets. I’m not a big scene-stamper, but this was really easy!

I wasn’t able to find a great spot for the sentiment on the front of the card, so I used the scraps and dressed up the inside. I’ve heard from a few people that a “card isn’t complete until the inside is done.” Well, I’ve been taking that to heart lately and really, it doesn’t take that much extra time…

Welcome to the Technique Tuesday Stamp Party!
This month, the Stamping Techs are getting together for a PARTY HOP!

Each of us dug into our stashes of Technique Tuesday stamps this month and grabbed the newest Technique Tuesday stamp set we own. For today’s hop, we are using those stamps.

I paired this gorgeous sentiment with some fun Echo park Christmas papers and sticker. You wouldn’t have known this stamp came from a set of “kids” stamps, would you?!

I had the pleasure of teaching a great group of ladies some fun and versatile techniques the other night and I wanted to share some of what we did…

Playing with distress stain, glimmer mists, Tim Holtz crackle paint in clear rock candy.

This technique involves glitter and copics.. More on this later.

We altered the chipboard pieces with white acrylic paint, distress ink, inca gold paint, and rock candy stickles. Pretty, isn’t it?

The base of this tag is embossed chipboard. The embossed dots act as a resist so when you stain or mist the tag the dots keep their original colour.

These were my “sample” cards, but each person went away with a totally unique looking card because I encouraged the class to substitute any colour glimmer mist/copic/distress stain that their heart desired and we all had so much fun! This is a great CAS card that was done in minutes. I left the inside blank and figured that when I decided who I would give this to I could stamp the appropriate sentiment and it would become a custom card. The rosette portion of the image was airbrushed with two Copic markers, then I popped the centre up on foam adhesive. There are lots of great words that come in this set, just you wait! AND, there is a set of dies that accompany this set (that I wasn’t able to get them in time to show you, but I’m super excited) that you will LOVE!

I created this image with Copic markers and the airbrush system. I used a nestabilities die to cut out the image, then I kept it in place while I airbrushed the various colours onto the cardstock. This is a VERY quick and easy way to add colour to your creations. Love it!

I, for once, decorated the inside of the card! I don’t usually do the inside because I have a touch of ADHD and by the time I get to the end of the card FRONT, I’m done.. But in the case of this card the sentiment didn’t go on the front, so I had to stick it on the inside. I used papers from Cosmo Cricket’s “Wanted” line… Yummy!!

Acorns, leaves, pumpkins, gingerbreads are just some of the gorgeous images added to the “Buckets of Love-Holiday Additions” stamp set. Coordinate the bountiful holiday images with the different buckets from “Buckets of Love” to create gorgeous fall and winter holiday décor. Torico’s additional sentiments will be sure to finish off your creation perfectly!

I had a great time making this clean and simple card with a new-ish set called Fabulous.

You can see the subtle pink background, right? That’s all hand-stamped, then I misted it with a little bit of light pink glimmer mist. I cut the banner out with my Silhouette and misted it too (you can’t see that in the photo.. but it’s there…) and adhered it to the card with a a glue pen. I chose black to balance out the black of the sentiment. (The sentiment is from the gnome set “My Little Friend” )

Hi there! I am so happy to share a couple of projects using new Marvy LePlume Permanent Markers on the SRM blog today. These markers are BRAND NEW and alcohol-based, not water-based as Marvy's previous markers. They are comparable to Copics - they blend, absorb without pilling your cardstock, and are amazing markers for only $2.99 each. Marvy was kind enough to send me a sampling of colours a month ago and I am so happy to share my results! The three samples I’m sharing today were coloured 100% by LePlume markers (with the help of my hands, of course, hahaha…)


They blend JUST LIKE Copic markers (they have a brush tip like the Sketch and Ciao markers) and they’re half the price… You can’t beat that! To do the background of this image I held the tip of the marker in front of my Copic airbrush gun and out came these cool splatters.

They have a nice selection of light colours so fading to white is a snap (with the help of the blender pen) and the dark colours are nice and vivid. (Stamps are from Whimsie Doodles - from one of her special unmounted rubber sets!)

My new love: Opaque White. It’s not alcohol based, but kind of like those old metallic markers that you shake (without the blobbing, and stink) AND it has a fine tip. The accents on the butterfly were done with the white pen and it worked so well to get into the little tiny spaces.

WOW it’s hot here. We are finally getting the summer we never got in July and August and it is SWELTERING out there! Thank goodness we have an air conditioner in our bedroom because I don’t know how I’d fall asleep otherwise. I am not a big fan of summer and I am SO ready for this heat to turn into fall weather, my favourite season. I have been getting some more Christmas products as they come into my LSS and I’m going to share two projects with the Christmas Basic Grey collection today.. First, a tag:

First I glimmer misted the tag and added some glimmer glaze (kind of like nail polish) with a template for the background, then I added some diecut stickers and a little lace. Done. Easy. Love it.

Next, a card:

The chalkboard-looking paper is black cardstock “painted” with Tim Holtz’s new picket fence distress stain. It’s opaque-ish and it’s great on chipboard, but as I discovered here, it’s fun with cardstock too.. The rest of the elements are chipboard shapes and again. Quick. Easy. Done.

I am sorry I’ve been a little negligent around here this week; it was my first week of school!! I forgot how exhausting it is and this year our school district is dealing with a lot of challenges, namely we are taking job action and things are a little strained around here. BUT, it is good to be back and to get some of the bands and choirs going.

Last night I got “in the mood” for creating a card and played along with today’s Free for All challenge at Splitcoast. The challenge was paper piecing and I instantly thought of a new set from There She Goes called Fabulous, and it is… Here’s my card:

Hey, can I toot my own horn for a sec? These are ALL scrap papers. Yes, I know. I’m awesome. hahaha.. But seriously, I am proud of myself when I can use all scraps.. I stamped the two different sizes of flowers onto the patterned papers and cut them out to “paper piece” a bouquet.

So that’s all, for now. I am looking forward to the weekend, for sure!

For our September release, we have a bunch of adorable images for you that are perfect for your Back-to-School and Halloween projects...and a little Steam Punk, too!  These images are so much fun to color-- and we know you'll love them as much as we do!

I made this card while camping last week and I totally forgot to bring Hallowe'en patterned papers along to work with this image.... WOOPS! It forced me to get creative so I created the background with a couple of different glimmer mists and stencil and sprayed the grungeboard skulls with black glimmer mist. I think it all worked out pretty well..

In other news, this is my last release with Whimsie Doodles. They have a brand-new DT that rocks and I will be enjoying their creations as a fan instead of a Diva. I was so happy to join in the fun and I LOVE my Whimsie Doodles stamps. I can’t wait to see what Melyssa has in store for the future!

I had the pleasure of going away with my family to Oliver, BC (the Wine Capital of Canada… It really is. There are no less than 28 wineries within 30 minutes of driving.. It’s absolutely NUTS) and we go with another family that I’ve known since I was 5. We have a great time together and what’s more, I know the ladies LOVE crafting. So I made up a make ‘n take. It was awesome, if I say so myself… hahaha..
So the make and take was based on these two tags I blogged about last week:

I brought along all of my mists and embossing folders so they could have a lot of liberties with colours and patterns..
There’s my set-up, and here are my students: Grandma, grand-daughter, and daughter. I’ve just shown them how to mist onto the mat and SMOOSH to create the background on the tags and they’re discussing colours.
I brought along a few different “butterfly options” so they all took their time contemplating their design. All the butterflies were cut out with grunge paper, embossed, then sprayed with glimmer mist.
  
Here are their finished designs.. They LOVED them and lovingly put them to use as bookmarks right away. I thought it was great how each of the ladies allowed themselves to be truly creative with the process. It makes for a really FUN experience (especially when you aren’t familiar with paper-crafting) and it also makes their finished product uniquely theirs.

And here’s my tag that I made as we went along to demo all of the techniques we used.
I would also like to note that this “class” did indeed take place while camping in 100 degree heat with sand in our toes and the smell of campfire in our hair. It was awesome.
