Sending Cheer Your Way

Playing around with mixed media stuff has given me the confidence to
JUST GO WITH IT.

You want to overlap some stamps? They’re different colours?
Whatever!

jan20sendingcheer

I had a thought that this might work and I’m glad I did. The only *wish* I have for this card is the third cloud on the left be visible. hahaha.. yes.. there is a VERY faint third cloud on the left. I know my rule of threes, ok?? I used a cute little set from Technique Tuesday called Happyville – Sunshine and there are lots of little elements in the set that you can play around with. I love sets like that!
Okay so the layout is awesome, right? It’s this week’s Deconstructed sketch:

Cool, eh?

Sketch Guidelines:

Are you ready for Deconstructed Sketch 87? I hope you like it! Here’s the scoop on what you need to do:
1. Use the sketch to the up top to make a project, any kind you like using any image you like.
2. Post it somewhere on the internet (your blog, SCS, Flickr, etc). Use keyword DS87 if you post to an online gallery like Splitcoaststampers.
3. Link back here to Inlinkz at the bottom of the post so I can stop by and see it.
4. Check back here next week to see if you are one of this week’s favorites and grab a badge for your blog.

I {heart} Mixed Media

So when it comes to papercrafts you may have noticed that I like to dabble. I, like many of you, have been “crafty” all my life and have  gone through a bunch of different “mediums” before landing on stamping.
I still love paint, though.
I wish I could draw well ‘cause I think I would do more “art” if I had that ability.
But I think I found something that will fill that hole.
Mixed Media Collage.
mmc1
(Mixed Media on 12x12 Canvas)
I have long admired people like Christy Tomlinson for her spontaneous and beautiful way of creating but never thought it would turn out if I tried… I didn’t know HOW. But here’s the thing: there are some basic steps (watching Christy’s videos help a lot!!) and really, it just starts to come together as you walk through them. For example, step one is covering the canvas with patterned papers. I can do that. Step two, add various colours of paint on top and have as little or as much paper showing through as you want.. Instinctually you know what to do. It’s so fun!
One thing I absolutely love about it is I have all the products and materials already. Materials such as:
stamps
rubons
stencils
paint
patterned paper
ink
washi tape
Here are some close-ups. Can you spot the supplies?

If you live anywhere near me (Vancouver, BC) I will be teaching this as a class in March/April at Clipper Street. Sign up for their newsletter and you’ll be informed of the dates. If you’re at all curious about this style of art I encourage you to give it a try. I already have quite the collection of pieces and I love it!!
Take care, and thanks for popping in!

Heartfelt Thanks

Our fourth and final day!! We are so thrilled to have you all hopping along with us! We love you guys!!

jan25heartfelt
I decided to go PINK with this card, and Jessica was my inspiration. Her colouring is always so soft and lovely without being washed-out. She has an amazing eye for colour and even though I couldn't stick with ALL soft colours, I think the idea is there. lol…

I wanted to try some big, bold colours with the stark black and white and I just LOVE how it turned out! You should give it a try!

This cute little cherub and all it’s adorable sayings and arrows will be PERFECT for any Valentine card, treat, or project you can think of.

Deconstructed Sketch + Tobi

On a whim I applied for Jen’s DT for her weekly sketch called:
and waddup… I made it. lol.. I am so excited to join the uber talented bunch of ladies and love having a weekly sketch to kick my butt.. If you’ve never played along with the Deconstructed Sketch they’re always great sketches and TONNES of people participate – and that equals lots of inspiration! Try it out!
Here’s my debut card (it’s also today’s TSG sneak peek!)

jan24cupid
So I went overboard with the circles.. Whatev. In hindsight I should have used the cloud die-cuts I was thinking about using, but I really love how the circles turned out. I did a whole bunch of levels using different brands of pop-dots:

Image coloured with Copics and charcoal pencil and papers are some Pink Paislee from a few years ago. Man, I love this line…

Get In Gear

Here we are at day two of this month's release, and we have two more SUPER cute sets from Torico!!

jan23getingear
I love this steampunk chick. She’s totally rad!! She’s a lot of fun to colour, especially since her outfit is so unconventional… You never have to go with “normal” when you colour her up! This girl reminds me of a good friend and I can’t wait to give this card to her!

Steampunk is one of our FAVORITE styles here at There She Goes, so when we saw the new Get In Gear set from Torico, we all squealed with delight. She is so sassy, funky, and FABULOUS. Also, the gears included in this set could TOTALLY be used for a CAS boys card, or building a background. SO versatile!

Get in Gear is a 3x4 set that includes a total of 7 stamps and will sell for $9.00

Whether you are sending your son, daughter, or loved one off, Torico’s new Boot Camp stamp set is perfect for you! With the cutest boot image EVER, and several catchy phrases you are sure to find exactly what you need for this very occasion.

New Release From Stampendous!

**Scroll down for the TSG Blog Hop**

It’s finally time to share some of the new images that Stampendous! released at the latest CHA. There are a bunch of really cute kiddos hitting the shelves soon and I want them all!!

Here’s a cute little boy card with Doctor Kiddo:

IMG_1249
I used papers from Pink Paislee Portfolio collection and they are great for any occasion, but I especially love them for masculine cards. I don’t really like brownish papers, so the hints of grey in the collection are just perfect!!

If you enjoyed today’s post, stay tuned for more and check out the Stampendous blog this week for peeks at the new release!

You’re The Top Dog

jan21topdag3

It’s no secret, we are DEFINITELY in love with everything Torico does here are There She Goes, and we know you are, too. This month she has honored us by creating a set that we have been begging for…meet The Doxie with Moxie!! SUPER cute dachshunds, along with several sentiments, outfits, and even a city scene for our more “elegant” pups, this set is just TOO much fun.

I especially love this set because I just got a weenie pup of my own (her nickname is weenie…) and I just can’t wait to use all of the funny sentiments and outfits to dress up my doxies like I do my own!!

jan21topdog4

Since I’m in Valentines-mode I picked this happy weiner couple and coloured them the colour of my pup. Aren’t they precious? I used the current Deconstructed Sketch for the layout – it’s a cute one! New BasicGrey papers make this card extra-delish and just a touch of twine!!

The Doxie with Moxie is a 4x8 set that includes a total of 32 stamps and will sell for $18.00. There’s also an accompanying set with some crazy sentiments: Size Matters is a 3x4 set that includes 7 stamps for $9.00.

My Heart BURSTS For You

Robot paper... Robot image (Lovebots). Kismet. lol..
I've held on to this paper FOR YEARS (literally) waiting for the right image to pair it with and finally I used it!! PHEW.. (the paper is K&CO. although I have no idea what the collection was.) I coloured my robot guy up with Copics and a charcoal pencil, plus a few accents with a white gel pen. I just love how he turned out!

So all week I've been writing posts about some much-adored TSG sets and today is the day we all get to share our new creations! Head over to the TSG Blog to check 'em out!

Catch My Heart

SO... Torico (who designs for There She Goes) also designs the cutest digital stamps ever - so I bought some! Her Etsy shop is called Birdie Brown and if you've never used digital, they are both economical and easy to use.. No worries!

I got to work right away with my new stamps... Here's my card:

Cutest monsters in the world, hands-down. I used some of last year's BasicGrey Valentines papers so I coloured the monsters to match... Very Valentines-y, right?

I used some new SRM Stickers for the sentiment and the heart on the paperclip (Stickers by the Dozen - Valentine) and once again I used the Deconstructed Sketch #83 for the layout.

See you soon!

I Puffy Heart You

jan15puffyheart

Have you played around with the “chalkboard” look yet? I’m kinda really loving the trend and am looking at my stamps with a different eye lately.. For this card I used a brand-spankin’-new Technique Tuesday set called Puffy Hearts. The hearts were stamped on charcoal cardstock and the sentiment on black – just to switch it up a little! Once I embossed everything I sponged a little bit of white ink on the cardstock to make it “chalky…” So fun. I used the Deconstructed Sketch #83 for the layout (although I had to switch it up a little – I don’t have any oval Nesties!!!) and I think it works… ha!

Thanks for stopping by!

Make A Wish

A quick card before bed! I played along with this week's CAS challenge at Splitcoast - it's a colour challenge! I cut out the various cardstocks with the Chevron die from My Favorite Things and adhered them to a scrap of 4x4 cardstock. I adhered an SRM Sticker (Sticker Sentiments - Birthday) to a piece of white cardstock and doodled a talk bubble around it - then cut it out. A little twine from The Twinery and that's it!

Have a great Monday... ha!

What’s New at Technique Too…..sday

It’s an exciting time for us crafters… We’re nearing the big winter tradeshow – aka CHA, and I am pretty excited about some of the new products the companies are sharing with us. I’ve been doing a little behind-the-scenes work with a few of the stamp companies I work for and today I get to share a couple of new designs from Technique Tuesday!!

The stamps are available for order now (shipping soon)!

hellohello

Ali Edwards has designed a whole bunch of new stamps with her characteristic handwritten style and they are just awesome for creating “CAS” or clean and simple designs. This card was made with stamps from Hello by Ali Edwards.

jan8love

Another CAS card with a new stamp set by Teri Anderson called Pucker Up and Live Laugh Love. I stamped with Versamark then used red embossing powder for the lips and white for the sentiment.

jan8loveyouseal

The center of the die cut is a stamp called I Love You Seal. The elaborate die cut is by Spellbinders and the circle in the center is a perfect fit!

jan8home

And lastly a card with a bunch of inks sponged over top of a new stamp set called In This House. Again, I used embossing powders (why am I so addicted lately??) to make the images POP against the inked background.

That’s all for now. I hope you’re all having fun seeing the CHA sneak peeks… I know I am!!

Our new “Best Friend”

Up until a week ago our family consisted of: Me, my husband Ian, our son Phoenix, our cat Whiskers and our dog Kitara. We were happy, our hearts were full, the animals thrived but I suppose something was missing (little did I know). I love visiting my friend Jessica for so many reasons (we laugh/cry/make cards/bitch about husbands, lol) but another reason I love her house is her preference for weiner…

DOGS!! Dachshunds, to be more specific! I didn’t know how much I loved those little wiener dogs until I was around Jess’s dogs for a weekend. Her one dog, Otis, stole my heart and I became “known” in our little There She Goes family as a wiener-lover. Ahhh… So be it… Harmless fun until Meredith (who does a lot of behind-the-scenes work at TSG) started to send me links to dog rescues with Dachshunds. Well isn’t that perfect!! I talked it over with hubby and we decided that we had room in our hearts/house for a dog that needs a leg-up..

Enter Best Friends Animal Society. One look at the “Chiweenie” named Cabernet and I was a goner.
fiona

If you don’t know Best Friends, they’re an amazing organization. They have rescued every kind of animal imaginable and take good care of them until someone takes them to their “forever home.” They are based in Utah, but they will fly your pet to you and all you have to pay for is the charge for the cargo. We picked her up a week ago and she is settling in wonderfully!

jan4fiona1

So yes, she’s a Chiweenie, which is a Chihuahua/Dachshund cross. I had all kinds of nightmares before picking her up that she would be more CHI than WEENIE, but she has a very lovely temperament. She’s up-beat like a puppy should be, but she’s not yappy, or mean, or aggressive, she’s just a sweet little girl!
I made a layout featuring her and have shared it on the TSG Blog. Please stop by there to see the full page. And PLEASE, if you’re at all curious about Best Friends Animal Society click the link and peruse all of the poor animals that need a loving home!

Life is a Circus

Happy New Year!!

Last night I spent a quiet evening “in” and I made a few cards.. This one was a quick attempt at the “faux chalkboard technique”. I really like the look and I have a few other stamp sets that would look really good using this technique.

Here it is:

lifeisacircus

Stamps: Stampendous! (Life is a Circus and Carousel Circus)

Paper: Bazzill Cardshoppe

Ink: versamark, Pallette

Accessories: white embossing powder, edge punch, sponge dauber

Techniques: faux chalkboard
