Faber-Castell Project Share

faber castell gelatos
All this week we’re crafting with the generous folks at Faber-Castell, and we know you’ll be so excited to see some of the terrific projects we’re creating.
In exactly one week my family and I are leaving for a wonderful 2-week trip to Ireland. Last time I was there I brought a pre-made travel journal to house little bits of memorabilia and document memories and it was one of the better choices I made for that trip! For today's post I am sharing my new journal!
I prepped it by laying down some drywall tape and smearing on wood filler/putty. Then I gesso'd it

Next, I took various Gelatos and made a bunch of circles. At this point I had NO idea where this project was going.

I took a baby wipe and blended the colours together.

Next, I covered most of the area with crackle paint, let that dry, and painted on top with white paint.

Now it's time to get messy!!
I added a whole bunch of other acrylic paints and glazes on top and decided to use one of Stampendous' new Mixed Media stencils that come free in a stamp set.

I used the stencil from the Wired Cling Stamp set and sprayed black paint (mixed with water) through it.

Next I used a Big Brush Pitt Pen to add some depth around the edge. My favorite thing about Pitt Pens are their ability to blend on top of acrylic paint.

 Here's the finished cover:

  4. So much depth and glorious layers of color!! I am green with envy of your trip to Ireland! I want to go one day and travel the Irish Countryside for a couple of months! When I worked at a Pub we had some Irish dancers come over every St Patrick's Day and I got to be good friends with them so I have places to stay when I am there which will help out a lot!
OOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I just realized that you will be there for Saint Patrick's Day! How awesome!! Enjoy your trip and remember to try all of the local foods. You will be surprised how good they are! TFS!

  12. Lovely, I love all the texture in your art journal cover, and although I'm not a mix media person, but I love looking at all the wonderful creations people make. I might just have to break down and try this, you make it sound easy to do. TFS.
