Yah… I scrapbook… So??

I remember when I used to scrapbook… That was fun…

Then I got into cards… Even funner!!

But I have 5 trillion photos hangin’ around… So I should scrapbook more… There is a challenge over at 2peas right now to make a layout with candid photos. I had two amazing photographers at my wedding and one was the straight-on photo taker and the other was almost purely the candid-taker. I love all of the candid shots from the day, they captured some great moments!

I love the “white space” style of scrapbooking and I love doing it, but it’s so darn hard to keep all of the elements balanced yet still leave some white space.

Controlled crowding…

weddinglayout2
I stuck a bunch of chipboard elements in the corner.. This served as my title because a large title didn’t quite fit anywhere else…

weddinglayoutphotos
From left to right is Kyle, our MC (he’s my BFF’s hubby); then my fricken brother Ryan who brought up my dead cat and the fact that our parents never told us they love us in his speech; and finally my handsome Daddy.. In his speech he actually said he loved me *gasp* and brought a few tears to everyone’s eyes, it was quite scandalous, hehehe.

I made the faux polaroid frames by cutting the photos to a square and matting them on white cardstock.. Way easier to write on cardstock than slippery photo paper!

Supplies: All patterned paper and elements are My Mind’s Eye. The only stuff that’s NOT is the white cardstock (Bazzill), and the red gingham ribbon (May Arts).

Thank You... Clearly

I love clear cards... They seem magical to me, somehow. They are more difficult to make because you have to strategically plan out where the adhesives will go, but I love the results.. Here's my card using some new My Mind's Eye papers and a stamp or two (houndstooth BG and sentiment) from a Technique Tuesday set called Dream Big.

Doesn't the stamp look like it belongs there? Love it...

Why I Love my Stamping Friends…

I am a loner. Because I have a crazy work-ethic I’ve always had at least 3 jobs and it’s been like this my whole life. What does that mean for a social life? I don’t have one!! I have some really great life-long friends that are with me through thick-and-thin (as they say…) and that’s kind of it! I didn’t know I was missing something in my life until I got together with some online friends for a weekend of stamping/talking/shopping and laughing at Jessica’s house. Have you ever tried saying a phrase like “What do you prefer for die-cutting Spellbinders: a Cuttlebug or a Bigshot?” to a normal friend? They look at you like you’re from mars and do the Awkward Turtle… So needless to say, getting together with 12 CARDMAKERS was a supreme joy and I learned so much from all of them.

Today I’m sharing my biggest “aha!” moment from the weekend. I was able to put it into practice today after gathering the necessary supplies: 6x6 envelopes. Thank you to Jessie Rone for showing me this tip. I will use it forever now!

IMG_0349

Do you have a shameful collection of 6x6 pads? (or 6.5x6.5 or 8x8…. Yah me too..)
I’ve always loved these pads because 1) you get the pattern scaled-down for cards, 2) you get all of the patterns in a collection and 3) scraps are minimal because you only start off with half the amount of paper.. BUT, there are still scraps, right? Here’s the solution.

IMG_0350

a 6x6 envelope on the back of the pad. So easy, so simple, so awesome… Why didn’t I think of it???

IMG_0351

Now all of the scraps are stored WITH the paper pad and won’t be forgotten next time you do a project with it! Do I have genius friends, or what???

Remember my Technique Tuesday post from a couple of days ago? Head over to the TT Blog to see everyone’s creations, and there may or may not be a stamp giveaway..

Buh-in Bonanza

Ever get on a product kick? I was making glittery buttons for the current PTI challenge and I had too many ideas to be contained into one card… So I made 4. All the trees were cut with the Silhouette.

photo (9)
I’ve seen this technique with a bunch of different shapes lately. I especially like the heart die-cut with the buttons in the back. But this tree looks ok too!

Supplies: Paper: Pink Paislee; Twine from the Ribbon Carousel; Sticker: My Mind's Eye

Supplies: This tag has a few glimmer mists pooled along the edge then I sprinkled some Frant-age (Stampendous) embossing enamel on top. PTI Sentiment

And finally, a couple of CAS button cards:

February Stamp Tech Challenge

Hi there! Teri ( our fearless leader at Technique Tuesday ) has given us an inspiration challenge. Truth be told, inspiration challenges are the hardest for me because I never seem to stick to my original plan... Anyone else have this problem?? *tumbleweed* Anyway...

This is my card:

It is based on this inspiration photo:

Confused? Lol.. I was originally going for the soft blue look, then a bunch of green crept in (which still fits the color scheme..) but then I started distressing and it got a little crazy... So it's based on the colors with no red, hehehe.

I colored the butterflies with Tattered Angels Glimmer Glaze. They blend together beautifully when they're wet! After the glaze dried I sprayed the card with glimmer mists and used my flat iron to do my magic..

Stamps used: Wingin' It, and Sweet Somethings

Hey, did you check out my post on the TT blog the other day? I posted a little video about glimmer mists and a couple of tips I've learned along the way... Check it out:

Stampendous Challenge: Texture

I love the current challenge at the Stampendous blog: texture... And lots of it!!! I used a new "Frantage" product called Embossing Enamel in "shabby pink." Check it out:

I stamped the berry image with Versamark ink then doused it with the embossing enamel. Then, to add more texture I sprinkled the powder onto the paper, kind of like salt, then I heated it up FROM UNDERNEATH!! This prevented the powder from flying everywhere... That's never fun.

This is the prettiest embossing powder you've ever seen... It has white, gold, and pink embossing powder with gold glitter!! It really sparkles in person.

The other items are: thank you sentiment by Stampendous, Prima flower, Sizzix die cut branch, and Maya Road ribbon. (isn't it gorgeous?!?!)

iSpy Sketch Challenge #4

I can’t believe it’s been a month of challenges! Time has flown by and I am thrilled with the amount of talented participants we’re getting with the challenge as each week goes by. I am loving the sketches Kim has picked out – they are by no means ordinary/average/standard and I am really enjoying the process of working through the unique layouts…

Here’s this week’s card. No colouring. Just cardstock and chipboard elements. Shocking, I know..

issc4

These are brand-new papers from Bo Bunny, and by brand-new, I mean they arrived at my LSS yesterday! I am not a huge Bo Bunny fan but I gotta say that this line (called Alora) is totally cute and I love it! The dotted paper is from a 6x6 pad, the red patterned shape is from a pack of “noteworthy” cardstock elements, and the house is from a pack of chipboard stickers..

Here is the original sketch based on this card by Heather Klump:

Here's how to play:

  • Create a paper crafting project (card, scrap book page or 3D item), based on the sketch provided.
  • Post your creation on your blog or an online gallery (using a code ISSC04), and link it here with the inlinkz widget. Please provide a direct link to your post - not the generic link to your blog.
  • A new challenge will be posted every Friday at 12.01 AM EST, and you have until noon on Wednesday EST to submit your entry.
  • You may enter as many times as you like, but please provide a newly designed project with a new link for each additional project.
  • We will choose the top 2 creations to be featured in our "Top 2 Thursday" post where we will announce who we have picked :) The winners will receive their very own iSpy Sketches blog badge!
  • Don't forget that you may combine our challenges with others and use supplies from any company that you wish :)
  • Have fun and we look forward to "spying" your creations!

Every Child Blog Hop Challenge

Hi again!! I am kind of REALLY excited about today’s share.. This week’s TSG release is my favourite one yet and every set is really special. Today’s set is all about crayons, paint, canvas, and paint brushes and Torico has created a set that will release our inner child. This set promises to bring out the artist in you. The darling line art in this set will having you pulling out all your favourite mediums and reconnecting to the “grown-up” artist that you are.

I don’t know if you’ve seen this trend, but I am a HUGE fan:

I HAD to replicate it..

IMG_0171

It’s kind of hard to get that cool melted look without the… well… melted wax, but I used my trusty Copic markers to colour up the crayons and draw some streaks… To get that shiny look I coloured over all of the markers and streaks with Versamark pen and covered it with embossing powder. Then heated it, ofcourse..

IMG_0169

I gathered up a nice little rainbow collection of Twinery baker’s twine and threaded it through the top. This sentiment is the perfect addition to this tag and there are SO many people in my life that I could give this to! I can’t wait to give it away.

iSpy Sketch #3

Hi there! I’m here to share this week’s iSpy Sketch and my card that I made for your inspiration! I had pulled out all of my Valentine’s stamps/supplies for V-day and a lot of them would work for general “I love you” cards (think anniversary, engagements.. or just because) so I’m just going to keep on using my stash!

I used a super cute Stamping Bella image paired with a bunch of my favourite patterned papers from My Mind’s Eye, Pink Paislee, October Afternoon and PTI cardstock. Here she is:
tobiiss03
I had a little too much fun with the green shading outside the image, but I think it add some sass.. lol.

Giddy with Excitement

When I ordered some stamps from Stampendous during CHA I had no idea what I was in for. Lots of times when I’m colouring an image I am content, calm, relaxed… but when I was colouring these guys, I was just plain freaking.. I don’t know if I’ve ever been so proud of how my colouring came out.

I will be teaching these four cards and all of the techniques involved at Clipper Street in March and April. If you’re in the area be sure and sign up.. Spots in this class are already going fast!!

Here is the main attraction:

I Love You

I really do….
Smile
iloveyou

I have made a tonne of Valentine’s Day cards in the past couple of days so I can stock up my rack at the flower shop and this is one of my fav’s. I don’t know what it is, but I think layering different-shaped nesties on top of each other is such a cool look. That little cupid is a Tim Holtz die cut (a movers and shapers die) and I cut it out of some Best Creations glitter paper. It’s not as sparkly as using loose glitter, but a heck of a lot quicker and cleaner!!
Have a wonderful weekend!

iSpy Sketches–week 2

Welcome back to the iSpy Sketch challenge! This week we are featuring this completely adorable card by Beate Johns (Beate at SCS) called Sweet li'l Sheep that was posted last year on March 24th. Beate is a stamping superwoman and a wonderful person and we are completely thrilled that she has let us feature her :D

Here is my card:

I used  a few old supplies from my “Valentines” box… I mean, how many times do we save our products with good intentions to use them again but never do?? I have some great new Valentine’s Day stuff, but I have a lot of older stuff like these Basic Grey papers and Penny Black stamp..

Here is this week’s sketch:

Last week, the first week of our blog, was a hit and I can’t wait to see everyone’s creations again! If you are able, I’d love to see you play along!

Just Stopping By…

I just finished designing a class for Clipper Street Scrapbook Co. and I’m really proud of the results. I aimed to design an all-stamping technique class that would reacquaint my students with those old tried-true techniques like:

Rock ‘n Roll:

Generation Stamping:

feb7thinking

Heat Embossing:

feb7sospecial

and Cracked Glass:

And aren’t those papers gorgeous?? It’s the “Nantucket” line from Pink Paislee that I’ve been using lately. I’m kind of obsessed, lol.. If you live in the area I would love to see you there!!

I Miss Your Mug

Hi there! It’s a beautiful Monday morning here in Vancouver and I’m off to a great start this week with a bright and sunny CAS card. I combined two challenges: this week’s TSG challenge: Negative Die Cut, and today’s CAS challenge at Splitcoast: Hearts.

feb6imiss

I used a Spellbinders die (Classic Hearts) to cut out the shapes then I placed a piece of white cardstock behind the pink and stamped through the openings. I popped the entire pink layer up (I love this look..) and added some stickles to the mug.. I have a lot of fancy mugs and wanted to replicate that.

Stamp set: Perk Up by There She Goes.
